The word arrangement would seem to be a funny topic to include when talking about making a homepage. Actually it is one of the most important topics to cover on this subject. It applies twofold to the design of a homepage. On one hand, the arrangement of the content on the page is very important, but on the other hand, most overlook that the arrangement of the page when it is written is also very important.
A page that has super graphics, superior java, embedded midis, and great writing is nothing without good arrangement of all these things. How the page flows is crucial to the overall outcome of the page. It is almost like art, the artist being the designer, the keyboard being the brush, and the browser being the canvas. Some pages out there have mastered this talent of arranging things on a page, but the majority of the pages encountered have no semblance of order what so ever. There is nothing wrong with a page that is chaotic. However, there is something wrong with a page that, for example, has an image jammed next to a line of text and then inturn the text jammed next to a seperator line. Every item or idea should have their own space. This makes the eye take them for what they represent indivdually, and makes them pleasant to view. The arrangement of a page is ultimately up to the designer and the way they wish for the page to look. Most difficulty is encountered when the designer cannot figure out how to make the page appear as they would like.
On the next few pages, there are examples of how some items could be arranged on a page to improve the way it looks.
