NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS
Hi Screenline Friends...
Hi Screenline Friends...
The next Screenline meeting is Monday, September 25. For those of you new to the list, Screenline is the screenwriting group in Raleigh. We meet at NCSU, in the Student Lounge of the Caldwell Building, on Mondays (every other more-or-less) at 7:30 pm.
The meetings start at 7:30 pm and go "till we finish." That usually means about 10 pm or so.
To get there, find the NCSU Bell Tower on Hillsborough Street. Near the Bell Tower is a big hi-rise dorm called North Hall, sort of cattycornered across the street from the Tower. Directly across the street from North, is Tompkins Hall. This building looks like a 19th century cotton mill, brick, big tall windows.
Park along Hollsborough (NOT ON CAMPUS!) or a side street. Enter the front door of Tompkins. (There is no street entrance to Caldwell Hall.)
When you pass through the foyer and enter the main hallway -- hardwood floors, resembles a bowling alley -- turn RIGHT. Keep walking until you pass through a set of normally-open double doors, and the hardwood gives way to tile floor. You're now in Caldwell. Just past the water fountain is a set of steps, down to the left... these lead into the Student Lounge, a big sunken area.
You are here!
We commandeer a set of couches in the back near the glass wall... usually 6 to 15 people show up. Come join us.
The next meeting is September 25. Following this, our schedule is:
October 9, October 23 November 4, November 20
December 4, and maybe December 18... we might move the 18th back a week to December 11, for a party to celebrate the "birthday" of Screenline back in December 1993. I'll let you know.
Screenline has no roll, no dues... the only by law is, Everyone is friends. This means: We are honest in our comments and critiques; we do not discuss each other's work outside group without permission; and we don't rip off each other's ideas.
The Wake Tech classes are under way and are great. I have 8 students each in Screenwriting, and Characterization in Fiction. These classes will produce some awesome work, I can feel it...! If you missed out on a class this time, don't fret... we'll do the same two classes beginning in January. And, as of now, I am planning to run an Advanced Screenwriting class in March.
DON'T FORGET THE FIRST NORTH CAROLINA SCREENWRITING CONFERENCE, NOVEMBER 10-11-12 at the Sheraton in DownTown Raleigh!!! This conference is part of and concurrent with the Fall Conference of the North Carolina Writers' Network. For more information, visit the web site: www.ncscreenwriting.org
Our friend Dr. Joseph Gomez at NCSU is instrumental in putting together this event. Thanks, Dr. Gomez, for all your effort!
Congratulations to Screenline members Scott Whited and Penelope Robbins!!! Scott entered the Script Magazine screenwriting competition, and has been notified that he made the first cut (top 50 of 437 entries). Penelope has placed in the top 10% of the Austin screenwriting competition. I am very proud of both of you... we are ALL very proud of you!!! Break-a-leg!!!
Screenline member Doug Ledson attended the Fade-In Magazine Hollywood Pitch Festival back in August. Doug reports that a number of production companies want to see his screenplay... Go Doug!!! Hmmm.. look as if we may have to throw that "bodacious party" some time soon.
See you all Monday!
