Dear Laura;
I am writing to endorse the Howard Stern Show. This country was founded by people escaping lands that restricted rights. Freedom of speech is one of our country's most valuable assets. Other countries around the world do not have such freedoms. I am amazed that the CRTC is so easily persuaded to investigate a person that basically is calling names. I would not expect a criminal investigation if someone were to call me a name. An investigation of Howard Stern is a waste of taxpayers' money, especially when the simplest solution is in the hands of each and every listener. A small minority of listeners does not have a right to tell a majority of Canadians what they can and cannot listen to. The Howard Stern Show is not being broadcast on a publicly funded station, it is a being broadcast on a private station may I remind you. In the spirit of free enterprise I would urge you to let the Stern Show exist and run it's course. As every private station knows, the audience is true judge and I believe that is the way it should be. I am grateful to live in Canada and appreciate the fact that I live in a democratic society. I am proud to live in a country that is democratic and allows it's citizens rights and freedoms. Howard Stern may not be to everyone's liking but I strongly believe he must be allowed to speak.
Yours Sincerely,
[Your Name]
Dear Laura;
I would like to inform you of my appreciation to CILQ 107 in bringing The Howard Stern Show to the Toronto area market. I trust the guaranteed rights of "freedom of expression" will be respected, as well as my right to choose to listen to the Stern program. There is most definitely a place for Mr. Stern's type of humor in our country. As for those that are offended, there are countless numbers of other stations from which to choose.
Thanking you in advance for your support and understanding in this most basic right of a free society.
Yours Sincerely,
[Your Name]
I am a Canadian citizen proud to live in a country that comes with the democratic right to make choices in how we live our lives. With the launch of THE HOWARD STERN SHOW here in Montreal on CHOM FM I believe we are seeing that maybe we do not have the rights we assumed to be synonymous with being Canadian.
Whether you like Howard Stern or not is not the question? The real question that the Howard Stern phenomenon is begging to be answered is ... should government bodies and other organizations have the right to force a show off the air, or, should the market success or failure of this show (and many others) determine their life span?
I feel that many Canadians believe as I do, that we as Canadians are over regulated. When our government now begins to tell us what we can listen to, or, watch, don't you this is going too far?
If The Howard Stern Show is forced off our airwaves by government regulators, when do we lose Don Cherry and Coaches Corner, great American and foreign movies, or literature (Canadian literature has been some of the most daring to be written in history). The Howard Stern Show is comedy, not to be taken seriously. If we lose the right to enjoy a show like this, will the Just for Laughs Festival be censored also. Many comedians (French and English) perform in this city each year, enlightening us with their own interpretation of humor. What is so different with Howard Stern?
If you agree with my views I urge you to make a difference... please sign this letter and forward by e-mail to the CRTC and the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council.
Howard Stern is forcing many issues onto the table for us. His show not having the right to remain on the airwaves here in Montreal and Toronto could be a defining moment for all Canadians and the final loss of the basic freedoms we have assumed to enjoy. The damage to the confidence of future generations could destroy the inner core of what has made living in Canada great .... The ability to do what we want to do, when we want to do it without fear of our government looking over our shoulder.
Canadians throughout history have shown apathy towards many things. If we do not stand up now and be counted, we could lose all that is important to us.
Please join me in making a difference and send this letter to these e-mail addresses:

Once you have sent your copies to the CRTC and the CBSC send this letter to 10 of your friends or colleagues who you think want to keep their right to make choices.
Do not forget to replace my name with yours at the bottom of the letter.
I enjoy having the right to personally decide to listen to Howard Stern. For those who do not like him they have the choice to switch the station. The day we lose the right to make a simple choice as to which radio station we listen to will be a dark day for all Canadians and this is something we all should agree on.
I sincerely hope you feel the way I do and will join my campaign to inform our government that censorship is not an option we are prepared to live with.
