TITANIC is a name known by everyone. But so many people don't know how tragic it was. This "Ship of Dreams" sunk on April 15, 1912, killing 1500 people. The people who went on this "unsinkable" ship went on it because they thought it was the safest ship ever created.... the largest moving object known to man.... more luxorious than any other ship... but most of those people went clunging into the freezing ocean with the rest of TITANIC. It just goes to show that you can't trust even the most trustworthy thing.
CAPTAIN E.J. SMITH - - CAPTAIN E.J. SMITH
Captain Edward J. Smith was called the "Millionare's Captain". He was planning to retire after sailing on Titanic's maiden voyage. He may have retired sooner, but he traditionally sailed on White Star Line ship's maiden voyages. It is commonly believed that Mr. Bruce Ismay had something to do with convincing Smith to go full speed, although they were making excellent time and there was warnings of iceburgs. But, nevertheless, a captain is ultimately responsible for his ship. He should have known better....
After TITANIC sank, the people who made it into some lifeboats waited to get on the CARPATHIA.
These are some eyeglasses that were found on TITANIC... the lenses are still intact.
