Ecto-1 is our primary means of transportation. While it may look like a hearse, it is actually a 1959 Cadillac ambulance (not many hearses come equipped with flashing lights and sirens). At the time of its purchase, we needed a vehicle that was inexpensive and had lots of room for ghostbusting and computing equipment. Ray Stanz found Ecto-1 in pretty bad shape, paid too much for it (in my opinion) and fixed it up. All in all, it has worked out pretty well.
Ecto-1 is equipped with a number of detection equipment and sensors, including a large-scale version of the PKE Meter. It is also a very recognizable vehicle and good for advertising. When we got our license back after the Gozer incident, the vehicle was updated with new technology and rechristened Ecto-1A. Most notable of the new features that were added is the scrolling screen which is used for advertising. After all, we are a business first and foremost.
