Starring Denzel Washington, Dan Hedaya, Liev Schreiber

-*-*I must preface this review by saying that my local theatre, United Artists Emery Bay, had a projector shut-down about half-way through the movie, so here is a review of what we did see*-*-
Denzel Washington gives a fair performance and ends up being the highlight of this film. Based on the true story of Ruben "Hurricane" Carter, a middleweight boxer in the 1960's who is apparently framed for a triple-homicide and sentenced to spend three life sentences in jail. We see flashbacks in Carter's life through a young man, Lesra, who picks up Carter's book, "The Sixteenth Round". In the part I didn't see, Lesra helps Carter free himself, though there is bound to be much more to it. I unfortunately did see Dan Hedaya's protrayal of the pre-requisite bad cop. This guy shows up at every turn of Carter's life, like the Blanchett role in "Ripley". Obviously just a charactature, a symbol of the racist system, Hedaya's character seems better suited for a cartoon. My review will cut short now, as I missed quite a bit of the movie. I don't plan to see the first part again.
