Annecy

Streams of Annecy

Our next stop was in Annecy, France. Annecy was, in a word, beautiful. The large town is centered around Lake Annecy, which holds the clearest water in Europe, we were told. The entire town looked like it was taken right out of a fairy tale. The water flowed into small streams that extended out and through Annecy, and little bridges across the streams were carefully decorated with flowers. There were even a few swans swimming about in the lake to make the image complete.

Ice Cave in Chamonix

Our stay in Annecy was three days, although while there, we took several side trips to nearby French towns. Our first such trip was to Chamonix, where we took a high-speed train up into the Alps and then were carefully lowered into an Ice Cave. The Ice Cave has to be redug each year, as over time it melts and slides down the mountain. Being inside the Ice Cave was really amazing. I felt like I was walking in Echo Base on Hoth!

Lake Annecy

We did many things in Annecy, including a day trip to Geneva, which I will get to later. On our last evening in Annecy, Juliet, Roger, Sarah and I rented a paddleboat and took it out on Lake Annecy. This was one of the best experiences of the trip. The lake was absolutely stunning. Being free to move about on the lake with my friends and seeing the lake and the mountains nearby was an experience totally undescribable. Needless to say, when we had to leave the beautiful Annecy, I was quite sad...
