"Oh. OK. Graphic content? I can handle that. Oh, you mean *graphic* content? I think I'd better stop eating my spaghetti.... Let me start off this review by saying that this episode is the most confusing one I have ever seen. And I didn't really like it. Don't scream, this is just my personal opinion. When the screen flashes "TO BE CONTINUED" at the end of an episode, it's OK to leave the viewer hanging off the edge of a cliff, but with both arms over the top, and maybe one semi-reliable foothold. Last night I was left dangling 50 feet below the edge of the cliff, holding on to a thin peice of thread. Chris Carter, you are evil. All 2-parters up to this point have asked some questions at the same time as letting you know a little of what's going on. I have no idea what is going on. After watching the episode a second time, and rewinding and watching certain clips for a third time, I'm still unsure as to what's happening in the lives of our agents. I'm starting to believe those people last night were clones, actually. As I am so confused, this review might be a little strange.... I guess Mulder's comment about not being "sure [he] believes in all that anymore" in 'Post-Modern Prometheus' was correct. He wasn't joking as we all originally thought. Mulder has gotten so screwed up by all the things he's seen, all the things he's been told, and all that other junk that he's been collecting in his mind over the years that now he's completely turned around. He doesn't know what he believes in anymore. He still *wants* to believe, I think, he just doesn't know how. I know there has been all of these rumors about how Chris Owens is going to take Mulder's spot on the show, or that he plays Mulder's half brother. I think it would be a great idea to add another agent into the works for a short time, as it would allow Mulder and Scully to grow closer - trying to shut out the newcomer to the relationship. But. BUT. I do not want to see Mulder leave. After last night it looks like he's ready to give up on the X-Files. It would really be the perfect time for another male agent to come into the equation and slowly take Mulder's spot in the X-Files section. And this scares me.
Krycek & marita
Next subject: Krycek. He's gorgeous. 'Nuff said. Well, OK, maybe I'll embellish a little. I was very happy to see our little one-armed Ratboy come back. I too have heard the news that he will not be in the movie, which I don't like, but have gotten over (somewhat). So I tried to relish all the parts with him in it last night. But I couldn't really enjoy it when I had to concentrate so hard to try to grasp what was going down. Krycek confuses me. When we first saw him, he appeared to be working for Mulder, but then we found out shortly after that he was tied in with the consortium. While working for them he managed to be the one to kill Bill Mulder and Melissa Scully. When he ditched the consortium, he apparently skipped over to Russia, where he got messed up in that whole "Black-Oil-Cancer" thing. Now he kidnapps a kid after beating him up and "getting information out of him", and is trying to sell the information and the kid back to the consortium. Have I forgotten anything? Then Marita decides to stick her cute little nose into the problem. More confusion. First we see her as Mulder's new informant, replacing Mr. X. Then she, like Krycek, is shown working for the consortium. Next we see her making out with Krycek in a Russian ship. (The only time I've envied the Uni-blonder.) I agree with Autumn Tysko when she suggested that this scene was the reason the parental advisories were placed on the show. She said, "Seeing Marita kissing like that could be seen as obscene. It certainly scared me." Finally, after alerting the Well-Manicured-Man and others to Krycek and the kids where-abouts, the kid gets better, climbs out of the car and goes after her. We see no more of Ms. Covarrubias. I'm sure many X-Philes are doing the Happy Dance right about now. Going back to Krycek for just a moment. He must have quite a lot of authority over those Russian dudes. A quiet sentance and a very good impression of the Scully Stare and he had the Russians quaking in their boots. I'm not sure what to think of Cassandra. She seems very tied to this UFO stuff, but I'm pretty sure some of her wiring isn't working right. She knows what's going on, and knows a little of what is to come, but she's also kind of wacky if you ask me. Hmm. Agent Spender. Not very good looking, and definitely not a good replacement for Mulder. Although Scully probably sympathized with him right away. "I want to build a reputation, not be given one." -Spender "I think I understand." -Ms. Spooky. What is this "timetable" all the big Upper class guys were talking about? Have we just been told that there *are* aliens, and that they were supposed to come here in another 15 years to... what? Kill us all? More questions, nothing answered. The only humorous part of the whole episode (sad, huh?) was the short conversation Mulder and Scully had in the office. Oh, and I loved the mustache and other decorations he drew on his picture. Oh dear. Mulder has returned to his old, insensitive self. He shoves all this information in Scully's face about Skyland Mountain and abductees and then turns his back on her. She was so upset and freaked out by all this, and Mulder just brushed her off every time she tried to open up to him. I wanted to slap him! Wake up, Mulder!! Along the same lines, Scully believes. And when she tries to share her thoughts with Mulder, which is obviously *incredibly* hard for her to do, he tells her to come back when she's got some evidence. Double-standards, double-standards. How many times over the years has Mulder jumped to conclusions without a shred of evidence and expected Scully to willingly follow? And the sad thing is, most times she has, and she's been right. Now when Scully makes a little leap, Mulder won't hear her out and *it looks like Scully's right*. On to the little Russian ship scene between Marita and Krycek. Hmm. Good idea, in theory. The liaison worked, but it would have been better if the female was someone other than that actress. My first thought when Krycek grabbed her was that this was how Marita dies. Krycek kills her and heaves her body over the side of the boat. Uh-uh. If they are so, um, involved, how did they manage to keep off of each other in Russia? Krycek looked... sad, I guess, while he was kissing Marita. Sad because he's happy to see Marita again, sad because he knows they're going to die, sad because they have to meet so secretly, I don't know. Again, MORE QUESTIONS!! But I think Nick Lea is a good actor. I can't say as much for Uni-blonder. They looked pretty passionate, though. But... I don't understand, did Marita screw Krycek over? And is she now dead....? And then, I think, the end was just a mess. We could see Scully struggling with innner demons about this all the way through the show, (which Gillian does *wonderfully*) but we were never told what she was thinking, so there's another confusion point. We are now up to 15 Confusion Points. The first gathering and anhilalation of the "abductees" in Russia I could handle. When it happened in the US, on Skyland Mountain, I needed someone to step in and give us some clues about who these people were, and whether Scully had any ties to them. When the kid with the sewn face, Cassandra and Scully all showed up on the bridge in the end.... Too much. It was too much raw information for me. I know, I know, a lot of people will probably think I'm nuts when I say I didn't really like this episode, but this is just my opinion. And I thought the guy who played the alien bounty-hunter said in an interview that he wouldn't appear this season? If he lied about that, what else could be lies? Trust no-one... I'm so paranoid. Does anyone have the name of a good shrink? So, what I've come up with is this. Tell me if you agree: I'm not sure whether I'm looking forward to next week. "You can tell them to kiss my American ass." "
