"Close Encounter communal experiences end, with the closing of the 90's, not in a glorius tour of the mothership, but by being burned alive. The direction the X-Files mythology is headed parallels the direction modern ufology is headed, which is toward a long term colonization program of the Earth by an alien race. With it's tying together of evolving 90's "folklore" (as a Scullyesque Mulder would say in this episode.. no explanation..just theories..) and fiction, the X-Files wisely retains the interesting psuedo documentary edge it had all along, as well as it's bite. Though the show (or should I say cultural phenomenon) always had great characters and a fascinating central plot, these characters and their experiences have grown through rip the implants out writing, and everything but anal probing acting. After years of crap, finally at long last, a show with true imagination and artistic quality...appreciate it...it doesn't come along too often...and although in a show like this, were talking excellence in every department, in this episode especially, you've got to love the lighting department, providing beautiful icing for a tasty fleeting cake."

"This would have gotten a ten, it's just that, for a two-parter episode be good, it must have a good ending. So I'm going to wait and see what I think next week before I give it a ten. Great story line, I hardly even minded that Mulder and Scully weren't in it as much as they usually were. I think it's an interesting change to have Mulder and Scully change roles, but it won't last. It's a good oportunity though to experiance what the other has to go through all the time."

"'Patient X' just left me feeling an overwhelming sense of ickiness. I understand what Mulder is feeling, but it's painful to see him turn his back on the world, filled with such bitterness and unrelenting, irrational skepticism. I want the old Mulder back. Soon. As in next week. I do appreciate the fact that they are bringing plot threads together, and I liked Scully's scene with Cassandra, and that saved this episode from a score of 1."

"While I don't really like to judge multiple part episodes until I've seen the whole story, this was a good solid myth. episode, despite some confusion I'm left with. But it's a two parter, so that's to be expected. They've got me intriuged with the sewn up faced men, Scully's myth, and plot, as well as the Scully/Mulder role reversal. I'll wait until next week to judge it any further than that."

"I thought that this episode was really good. I love any episode with Krycek in it, and Mulder's attitude was really funny. I cannot wait to see the rest of it next week."
