"Now THIS is what an X-Files episode is supposed to be! I loved the second part of this two-parter! Yes, I'll admit that it was confusing, but still! I was pleased. Too all you shippers out there...yeehaw!!! Lots of wonderful romantic stuff in here, such as Scully grabbing Mulder's hand during her hypnosis session, and the holding of hands in the police car. Ok, I'll admit that during Scully's hypnosis scene, I couldn't help but think "This is like another episode. I think it was called 'The Field Where I Died'" Who can blame me? The whole hypnosis scene didn't seem right, mostly because Scully used the Lord's name in vain so many times that I lost count! Yes, I know she's only semi-religious, but that really scared me. Gillian Anderson's portrayal of Scully's fascination and overwhelming emotions coming out of her experience with the UFO was amazing. She was able to express the fear that would havie been going through Scully during that session, and it made us almost feel like we were there. There were some great lines in this one, as well, such as the very funny "You must be losing your touch, Mulder. I can beat you with one hand." "Is that how you like to beat yourself?" Haha! Since the subject of Krycek has been brought up, I, like many of you, was a *tad* surprised by Krycek kissing Mulder, until I realized the significance of this. At first I was thinking "Gee, Krycek was a little bit out of control hormone wise before....now he's kissing a guy!? Krycek, you're just too desperate!" Then I remembered that Krycek is considered Russian now, and the Russian kiss each other as a show of farewell or appreciation. Besides popular belief, I believe that Krycek, though he killed Mulder's father, never hated him the same way Mulder hates him. Krycek seems to think that Mulder can still be counted as an ally, though a dangerous ally. CSM's alive! Long live the Niccotine Naughty! I knew he was alive! Well, it's great to have you back, Cancerman. The show wouldn't have been the same without the dark, mysterious acting of William B. Davis. As many people were, I was upset that Marita didn't die, but, hey, that means that the MB/MDS can go on! Death to the Uniblonder...we were so close! Well, does Mulder believe? Is Scully her incredulous self again. It seems to me that our two agents are being pushed to their old beliefs again. Krycek pushed Mulder back towards his belief in extraterrestrials, and Agent Spender pushed Scully back towards her disbeliving nature. Are they fully back to normal *how do you define normal?*? Of course not. This will take time, but at least they're going in the right direction. I guess, now, I have some thanks. Thank you, CC, for giving us only what you want us to know, because that will serve us well in the future. Thanks, Frank Spotnitz, for co-writing this. Thank you, Mark Snow, for all your beautiful music, Thanks, Gillian Anderson, for your emotional portrayal of Scully. Thank you, David Duchovny, for showing Mulder's confusion in such a believable manner. Thank you, William B. Davis, for coming back. The show wouldn't be the same without you. Thanks, Nicholas Lea, for effectively acting out the anger, sorrow, and confusion of the rat we all love to hate. There are so many more thank you's that I should give, but that's good for now. This episode deserves a ten, and I think I just summed up why. The Red and the Black proved why The X-Files is the most unique, beautiful, interesting, and exciting show on television, and I doubt any show will ever come close to it's standard of excellence. Thank you, Chris Carter, and all of the cast and crew."

"I really like where the main mythology of the X-Files is headed setting up an excellent premise to lead into the movie, and complimented by totally imaginative kick ass lighting, this has classic X-Files mythology episode shining all over it ( although personally I slightly prefer the freaky flashbulb one shot episodes ). I found this episode to be exciting, in that, your finally getting to see some more of who the players are, what the aliens are up to, Mulder and Scully's current mission, and what they're up against. Even though in a show like this, aspects of that could change at any time, you still get the basic idea, which is liberating in some small measure, after being left in the dark for so long. I found Mulder's doubt amusing and Anderson and Duchovny were both in top form in the delivery of their lines, very undestated, full of complexities and slight undertones. Gillian and David are not kidding around this season. Serious acting. The tobacconation was not an inhalation, but that's not surprising, since William B. Davis Cigarette Smoking Man is one of the best multi-dimensional characters t.v. has ever seen, but enough with this fake death crap...start killing for real. "

"WOW! What a great episode! I loved it. Gillian Anderson kicked some major ass! The acting was great and so was the plot. No wonder the episode was so great, C.C. directed it and wrote it! Last eppisode really sucked, and I didn't think that I would like this weeks episode but I loved it! I was so glad to see the cigarette somking man. Right away I knew he was alive and that he was Agent Spenders father. I'm glad to see him back on the show. This episode has scared me a little on the beging with things like is Scully gonna die? Is Scully a believer? Is Mulder a sceptic? Has Mulder lost his faith? What is Chris Carter thinking? I also loved Gillian Anderson's acting when she was hipnotized. She did a much better job then David Duchovny in "The Field Where I Died". There were some strong tension beteewen their friendship. It wasn't romantic, it just showed how much Mulder cares for Scully and how much Scully cares for Mulder. Nothing can come between Scully and Mulder caring for eachother, not in a romatic way though! And I respect that a lot! i love this episode and I'll be sure to include this into my top 20 list!"

"This is the two-parter to end all other two-parters! That was great, i can't believe the plot twists X-Files is taking, one more interesting than the next! It was strange to say the least to see Mulder and Scully swicth their roles, and sort of a relief to see them go back. The acting was great I think, it was so great to see what Scully and Mulder were going through having all of there beliefs questioned and twister around. I also really love the idea of Krycek being a good guy, nobody trusted him forrm the begining (with good cause) and now it seems so right to have him and Mulder sharing the same problem again. The effect of the chip crashing in a ball of fire was really great, I admire whoever pulls it off each week."

"Great episode!! Wonderful, I'm thoroughly impressed, but it takes a lot to get a ten out of me. Gillian Anderson is an acting goddess. The hypnotic regression scene totally floored me. She was brilliant, as always. I also loved the Scully/Mulder dynamic here, everything from Scully reaching to him during hypnosis to Mulder's speech, which hit right on target, about "the inextricable relationships in our lives" and fate and destiny to the hospital room scenes to the ending scene in the car. Lovely stuff here. Rift, schmift. The mythology also seems to be tying itself together, no doubt in preparation for the movie. Great episode all around. It's a keeper."

"It is cool that we now know for sure that cancer man isn't dead."
