The relationship between Matt and Ellen
came to a critical moment in May, when Matt found out that Ellen was
accepting a job on the West Coast, in San Diego. Up to now, Matt was
reluctant to declare his feelings about Ellen's leaving Port Charles,
because he didn't want to keep her from advancing her career. Also, Matt was
unsure of his feelings for Grace Sullivan. She had taken a bullet to save his
life, and Matt felt protective of her and wanted to shield her from
further harm.
Ellen was also unsure of herself and her feelings concerning Matt and her
move to San Diego. After much soul searching, she decided to tell Matt how
she felt about him, hoping that Matt would ask her to stay. She went to Matt's
apartment to tell him, and found Grace there with nothing on but a t-shirt.
Grace had spilled Chinese food on her clothes and had taken them off and
changed to some of Matt's clothes. Ellen reached the wrong conclusion and
left.
That night, Matt visited Ellen in her apartment to explain to her what had
happened and to set things straight between them. Ellen was in the process
of packing her furnishings for her move, since she had decided to leave. Matt
insisted that Ellen tell him how she felt about him, and pulled her close to
him on Ellen's sofa. Ellen reluctantly began to open up to Matt, telling him
that she had loved her husband, Sam, so much, and that when Sam died,
something within her died, too. Matt told her that he had to give up so many
things and people in his life, but that he had found that one could build on
what was left, and that love never really died. Ellen then told Matt how she
felt about him. She told him that he had opened her heart and helped her to
learn to love again.
All the while embracing, Matt told Ellen that she had made him the happiest
man in the world, he wanted to feel close to her and to make love to her. In
a very touching and romantic scene, he said, "I always knew that I wanted
to spend my life with only one person, but I would rather spend one night
with you than a lifetime with anyone else." Matt added that he would
keep her safe. Ellen visibly melted at that disclosure. She told Matt that
she felt like a nervous 15 year old.
In a warmly humorous scene, the subject of Matt's ability to make love was
discussed. Matt whispered, "I guess you're wondering about my
disability?" Ellen nodded, "Remotely - yes remotely, I guess I
was." Matt said, "Well, you know that most spinal cord injured
men can still become aroused - and that includes me. Even though my spinal
cord is injured, I can still make love." Matt pulled away momentarily
and then said with a broad smile, "Well, that concludes the medical
portion of this program." Ellen whispered huskily, "I'm ready."
Matt kissed her and asked "Wanna go lie down?"
The next scenes, which are both tender and passionate, take place in
bed, in Ellen's room. There is some very sexy and romantic verbal foreplay
while Ellen unbuttons Matt's shirt and he loosens her blouse and bra. Briefly
there are scenes that overlap and fade out while the couple are making love
to one another . . .
In the next scene, we see Ellen and Matt in bed together, basking in the after
glow of their lovemaking. Matt is leaning over Ellen, looking intently at her.
"What are you doing," she whispers. "You take my breath away,
" says Matt. Ellen smiles and says, "Well, then let me resussitate
you doctor," and kisses him. Matt smiles and says, "I wonder how
far I'd get with a line like that?" Ellen smiles and says, "You
didn't get me with a line like that doctor." "No," Matt
says "I got you with about two thousand lines." "Well, I'm
not easy," Ellen laughs. Matt laughs and pulls Ellen closer - and then
the phone rings. The answering machine in Ellen's bedroom takes the message -
it is Grace, innocently calling to tell Ellen that she hopes that her trip to
San Diego will be a success.
Immediate remorse envelopes Ellen - she is sleeping with her best friend's
boyfriend. Matt assures her that he doesn't want anything to spoil the rest
of the night for them. He kisses her tenderly, and they resume their
lovemaking. The scene fades . . .
