Dragonheart (1996) (Universal)

Synopsis:

Bowen is a knight of the old code who is training Prince Einon.  When Einon is mortally wounded after he goes down to a battle, his mother takes him to a dragon, who shares half his heart with the boy, with Einon's promise that he would rule wisely and kindly.  His father killed in the battle, Einon becomes King and forces the peasants to build him a huge castle.  Bowen blames this change in Einon on the dragon and devotes his life to hunting down the dragon.  Twelve years later, Bowen, having lost faith in the old code, finds the last of the dragons.  Convinced that this is the last dragon, Bowen and Draco, as the dragon comes to be called, make an agreement, if Draco is to live, he will help Bowen make a living through conning the vilages that Draco would "attack."  Through this they meet Kara, a girl who wants to fight Einon, who has become powerful and tyrranical.  When Bowen is reminded of the old code, he joins Kara in defeating Einon, and we learn that Draco is the dragon who shared his heart with Einon.  Bowen realizes that Einon was already evil, and that it was no result of Draco.  Unfortunately, Draco and Einon share a bond that comes with the sharing of the heart, and neither can die unless the other were to die.

My Rating:
Dragonheart was a fun ride.  It has a great blend of humor and action.  The CGI animation of Draco was a great advancement in the technology.   Plus it does not take itself too seriously.
