"Veganism is the consciousness that Corey was powered by,
aspirant to and shared so peacefully-yet-strongly with those of us
blessed to have so much of her"
From a very young age Corey took in a keen interest in the welfare
of animals and would remain true to her ideals for the rest of her
life. She would often use interviews as a vehicle to bring important
issues to the attention of a wide audience. Unfortunately though, her
good intentions would sometimes go to waste if the interviewer
misinterpreted her intentions
"One of my beliefs is about harmlessness to animals,"
said Corey. "I don't believe in eating meat or using any animal
by-products or contributing to suppressing animals. Animals can't
really voice their opinion. I feel as though I can be one of the
spokespeople on their behalf."
Darlene is a passionate supporter of animal rights and the vegan
lifestyle. "I don't harm animals in any way," she said.
"I don't take from them either. Which means no milk or milk
products. I also refuse to use soaps that use animal products in
their ingredients. I just eat vegetables and lots of fruit and soy
stuff"
Veganism was not the only cause that Corey is so passion about. Green
issues would also be equally important to her. "Priority number
one on the whole list for the whole world should be the
environment," said Corey during an interview once. "It's
the life support system that keeps all of us, men and women in our
civilized realm, alive."
Vegetarianism
Becoming a vegetarian is an obvious way to help reduce the number of
animals who are slaughtered. There are 4 main types of vegetarians,
and in order from least strict to most strict, here they are. Click
on each type of vegetarian to learn more about it, and I hope you
will consider becoming a vegetarian

Veganism is the strictest form of vegetarianism. Vegans do not
eat milk, eggs, gelatin, and other animal products such as honey.
Vegans find the meat industry to be repulsive and barbaric, and
almost always fight strongly against it. Vegans will find animal
products hidden in everything--for instance, carmine, a red dye in
some foods, is obtained by crushing carmine beetles. A vegan will
refuse to dissect (although many other vegetarians will do the same
thing) and will attend the local fur protest. And, a vegan will
never "eat it to please his mother." A vegan feels that the
animal's life is more meaningful than someone's ego, and, if
necessary, will politely make this known
2. Semi-Vegetarianism
Semivegetarians don't eat red meat such as beef and pork, yet
still eat fish and poultry. I have noticed that most semivegetarians
follow this diet for health purposes, as the dangers of eating red
meat are very obvious. However, there are also some semivegetarians
who are trying to taper down to become stricter vegetarians by eating
less and less meat. This works for some people and not for others.
This is not meant to cut down on semivegetarians who intend to become
stricter, but rather to commend them for having the willpower to do
what I would never have been able to do. The main point I want to
make about semivegetarians is that I would consider some to be
vegetarians (those who intend to become stricter) and wouldn't do the
same for others (who don't eat meat for health reasons)
3. Lacto Vegetarianism
Lacto vegetarians are much like lacto-ovo vegetarians, except
that they do not eat eggs. This may be because the egg is viewed as a
potential animal, and should not be eaten, or because of outrage at
the egg industry. In general, lacto vegetarians are feel more
strongly about animal rights than lacto-ovo vegetarians. (lacto-ovo
vegetarians who are very concerned about animal rights) Lacto and
lacto-ovo vegetarians seem to prefer reform of the egg and dairy
industry rather than the elimination of them. Lacto vegetarians may
have some trouble with what they can and can't eat, since eggs are
sometimes hidden in products such as pasta and ice cream, where you
would not suspect eggs. However, it is much easier for a
lacto-vegetarian than a vegan
4. Lacto-ovo Vegetarianism
A lacto-ovo vegetarian is a vegetarian who eats neither red meat
nor poultry, but does eat animal products such as eggs and dairy
products. This is justified because the animal does not die to
produce the milk and eggs. Most lacto-ovo vegetarians are so for
ethical reasons, although there are a few who simply do not like the
taste of meat. Most lacto-ovo vegetarians do not eat gelatin and
fish, although you will find a few who do. Some lacto-ovo vegetarians
avoid leather, and other products which obviously harmed animals,
while others are not as much less concerned with this as that they
"cannot" give up such things, or feel that this would be too extreme.
In general, a lacto-ovo vegetarian is your "basic vegetarian."
Shopping as a Vegetarian
It can be really difficult to know what contains animal products, and
what was tested on animals. For a list of companies that don't test
