Even after 20 years since its release, "Alien" still appears futuristic (give or take a few quibbles, such as the monochrome-monitor). Like the title suggests, there is only one alien in this movie (not counting the eggs or the fossilized skeletons), but it proves that you don't need an army of these xenomorphs to generate some fear. Aside from all of its menancing qualities, this alien is scary because, most of the time, no one knows exactly where it lurks on the ship. It could jump out anywhere. Also, much of the ship looks like a futuristic dungeon with its dark hallways and rooms riddled with computer panels, steel grid floors and automatic doors, and this atmosphere adds to the gloom and doom. Throw in the excellent cast to the spectacular visuals and well-crafted plot, and you have what is destined to be a horror classic! |

OVERALL RATING
** NOTE: The more dots on the domino, the better the movie. 11 or 12 dots is top-notch entertainment while one or no dots signifies the bottom-notch variety that may be slightly more amusing than watching the needles move on the gas meter. ** |
