It would only be a matter of time before they start milking on the success of the original "Blair Witch Project". Once again, a group of people venture out into the woods to document the supernatural activity of the legendary witch, but this film also goes into the territory of video tape editing, whodunits, and alternate realities. Strangely enough, "Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2" falls short where it tries to be different, mostly because this is where it takes too long to get the plot going anywhere, and once it does, no logical conclusion arises thanks to the whole alternate reality phenomenon. However, the first half is decent if a bit familiar, and the acting is not bad for a mostly unknown cast, though the local sheriff is over-the-top with his rural accent and his browbeatings. It also does something very unusual in the vast world of sequels. Usually, sequels will either pick up where their predecessors end (or perhaps a few years from then) or have very little to do with their precedessors at all, but this sequel does neither. Instead, it treats the original as only a movie (or is it?) and the characters even reenact some of their favorite scenes and say how the official Blair Witch Project website has done such a great job tricking the public into believing the witch is real! The bottom line: While below average as a horror movie, "Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2" does have some interesting ideas behind it. It's not as bad as the trailers would lead you to believe. |

** NOTE: The more dots on the domino, the better the movie. 12 dots on the domino is the best rating while no dots means it would only take up valuable space in the dumpster. ** |
