For the first few minutes, "Carnosaur 2" looks like it's going to be a medley of "Aliens", "Jurassic Park", and perhaps a few others from the sci-fi/horror genre, but it soon turns out to be "Aliens" a la Roger Corman. The plot, characters, setting, and even many of the lines of this movie are very similar to those in "Aliens", similar to the point that it could easily be called a rip-off. The only two major differences between these two movies is that velociraptors and a tyranosaurus rex replace the aliens and alien queen and that "Carnosaur 2" is obviously made on a much lower budget. It's pretty clear that the dinosaurs--especially the T-Rex--are rubber suits since they walk remarkably like humans, and there is a helicopter crash scene where the helicopter snaps apart like a plastic model and explodes a few seconds later. Whether you want to call "Carnosaur 2" a rip-off or a homage to a horror classic, it's fun to anticipate exactly how this movie is going to steal scenes from "Aliens", and, yes, you can expect to see a showdown between forklift and creature. Overall, it doesn't approach the greatness of "Aliens", but it is entertaining to see a low-budget version of an awesome sci-fi/horror film. |

OVERALL RATING
** NOTE: The more dots, the better it is. 11 or 12 dots indicates a masterpiece worth "throwing into the VCR" while one or no dots means it's a "disasterpiece" definitely worth "throwing against the wall." ** |
