Remarkably enough, this Halloween installment picks up right where the previous one ends. Even so, it fails to live up to the original Halloween. It is comparatively slow and suffers from several unbelievable scenes such as the darkened, sadly understaffed hospital and Michael Myers getting hit by a police car. The Michael Myers here is different from the one in the first, as he is now less of the methodical stalker and more of the simplistic psychopath randomly murdering anyone who crosses his path. Unfortunately, the new Myers is not as credible nor as scary as the original. Also, there is none of excellent soundtrack from the first Halloween. Instead, it starts off with the "Mr. Sandman" song (so does "Halloween H20," by the way), and the eerie piano in the Halloween theme song is superseded by bass and drums. Too bad they just didn't stick with the piano and make more songs like the theme song. Despite all the disappointing aspects of "Halloween II," it is still a decent sequel. There is a nice variety of deaths, such as the excessive amounts of blood draining from a catheter and the murder in the hot tub. The body count is higher too, and about a half a dozen more people die in "Halloween II" than in the first one. Overall, it's not nearly as good as the first Halloween movie but considerably better than the other sequels to the series. |

OVERALL RATING
** NOTE: The more dots on the domino, the better the movie. 11 or 12 dots is top-notch entertainment while one or no dots signifies the bottom-notch variety that may be slightly more amusing than watching the needles move on the gas meter. ** |
