Uh oh, another movie where a unsuspecting pedestrian avenges himself after getting run over by a bunch of wreckless teenagers. This has happened before in "Zombie Nightmare", but mercifully it isn't Jon-Mikl Thor this time. On a more positive note, it does seem to be influenced somewhat by the original "Halloween" since the killer from "I Know What You Did Last Summer" stays out of sight much of the time to build up some of that tense anticipation like Michael Myers has once done. Unlike Myers though, this killer has a relatively colorless presence, and does a few stupid things here and there such as cutting Sarah Michelle Gellar's hair while she is asleep and then killing her a couple days later. Geez, why not kill her right off the bat? Granted it pads the plot more if you give Gellar a rude awakening, but why make the padding so obvious? As with the most widely known '90's horror films, the production values are quite good. Even so, some of the cast--particularly Ryan Phillipe and Freddie Prinze Jr.--has clearly been chosen for looks rather than acting ability. At least the killer snuffs one of them before they can annoy anyone further. Jennifer Love Hewitt is a bit over-the-top with her flailing around while screaming to give the cameraman an opportunity to get a bird's eye view of her ample breasts, though she does seem appropriately freaked throughout the whole movie. The viewing experience will stir mixed opinions. There are quite a few things to lash at in this movie, but even so, it isn't that bad either. |
