"Mother's Day" is a spoof on rape movies like "Last House on the Left" and "I Spit on Your Grave" and takes on the daunting task of turning misogyny into humor. Unless the acting/execution is laughably bad or the victims are being raped by something really ridiculous like a flower bed or a cursed chess set, movie rapes just aren't funny, even if the victims are forced to do Shirley Temple routines. Even so, "Mother's Day" is still occasionally funny, and this may be the only horror movie where someone steps barefoot on a bear turd (the camera gives this a close-up). It does have its share of annoying moments like the three would-be victims cackling all at once among themselves (it's bad enough to have two people talking at the same time, but three is where the pain really begins). You could say it's pretty stupid too, but the movie is very low budget and is meant to be addle-brained, especially when you consider the villains are a pair of severely inbred backwoodsmen being ordered by their own mother to rape city girls! The bottom line: If your sensibilities aren't too delicate and you have a macabre sense of humor, "Mother's Day" might be worthwhile. Otherwise, you are bound to hate this movie. |

** NOTE: The more dots on the domino, the higher the rating. 12 is a masterpiece. One or no dots is also a masterpiece, if you consider poop to be a gourmet ingredient.** |
