Well, they've finally decided to kill Freddy Krueger for good in this sixth offering of the Nightmare on Elm Street series, or have they?! Compared to the others, this one might be the goofiest, and Freddy dishes out more dark humor than ever. In fact, it is so goofy that it could pass as a live-action Saturday morning cartoon. There are tons of gimmicky special effects which scream computer generated images, and apparently there is a 3-D version out there too, though the 3-D gimmick does not appear on videocassette version. The story is pretty thin, although they've managed to stretch it out better than in "Nightmare on Elm Street 2". Despite the cartoonish feel, there are some good death scenes such as one of the characters getting killed in a video game (Freddy even makes a wisecrack about Nintendo's Power Glove, which, by the way, is no substitute for the joystick). Probably the best thing about it is that they finally show some of Freddy's tumultuous childhood with the hamster-hammering and the floggings from Alice Cooper. As for the ending, well...it hardly qualifies as a grand finale for the series, and Freddy has seen more spectacular "deaths" in the earlier Nightmare on Elm Street movies. It really doesn't matter since the filmmakers have resurrected Freddy in "Wes Craven's New Nightmare" anyway. The bottom line: "Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare" is geared primarily toward fans of dark comedy and ranks as average among the horror films. |

** NOTE: The more dots on the domino, the better the movie. 9-12 dots is the equivalent of two thumbs up while 3 dots or less means two thumbs up the ass. ** |
