Only in the horror genre are you going to have a sequel to an unofficial sequel for something else. Needless to say, the zombies are back for more in "Return of the Living Dead: Part II", and they're just as quick as the variety from Dan O'Bannon's "Return of the Living Dead", the unofficial sequel after George A. Romero's zombie trilogy. Like the latter, "Return of the Living Dead: Part II" is a very energetic movie. The action does not let up here. Unfortunately, the soundtrack is cheesy, and the cast hams it up to high heaven. A few of the characters are rather dumb, such as the clueless doctor and the redheaded girl who sits still for her zombified boyfriend to munch on whatever brains she has available. Even so, it delivers enough mindless fun to watch it in its entirety. The bottom line: Although "Return of the Living Dead: Part II" does not approach the greatness of the original, it is still energetic and reasonably entertaining. |
