Judging by the box and title, "Sorority House Massacre" would seem like the kind of movie which puts great emphasis on gratuities and very little on story development, but it actually aims to do more than just have an escaped maniac simply kill a bunch of scantily-clad college girls one by one. There are also brainwave experiments, psychic links, and a superabundance of flashbacks. Although the plot is not particularly complex, it is decidedly more ambitious than most of the other schoolgirl slashers, including "Sorority House Massacre 2". The movie benefits from having relatively normal girls as the victims since you can indentify more with them while they're being stalked, though this will disappoint horror fans expecting to see a bunch of big-breasted bimbos instead. It seems this movie would have the makings of a minor classic, but unfortunately it runs into several problems. The numerous flashbacks are intriguingly bizarre at first, but after a while, they lose their luster and only mire down the movie; the life-destroying lunatic has a ridiculously easy time breaking out of the insane asylum, and the killings--mostly guerrilla stabbings to the stomach or chest--are unspectacular compared to many other horror movies. Nevertheless, it's still a moderately entertaining way to waste 74 minutes of your time. The bottom line: "Sorority House Massacre" isn't too shabby and ranks among the better college girl slashers. |

** NOTE: The more dots on the domino, the higher the rating. 11 or 12 dots is considered to be excellent. One or no dots means you're much better off fast-forwarding the movie rather than playing it. ** |
