"Silent Night, Deadly Night III: Better Watch Out!" picks up a few years later after "Silent Night, Deadly Night Part II", though the killer is played by a completely different actor and does not don a Santa outfit. Unlike the previous two, this movie centers on a potential victim instead of the killer, and it throws in a psychic link phenomenon to separate itself further apart from the other Silent Night, Deadly Night films. Unfortunately, horror flicks which involve people with psychic links to killers are generally on the shabby side, and this one is no exception. Although the acting is somewhat better here than in "Silent Night, Deadly Night Part II" (which isn't saying much), the semi-comatose killer is simply ridiculous. The top half of his head is a transparent, plastic dome, and he hitchhikes in a hospital gown until a Cheech-ish Mexican is dumb enough to pick him up. Scenes like these may lead you to believe this is a dark comedy, but actually the movie does not really try to be funny at all. It doesn't really try hard for action either and feels about 15-20 minutes longer than it actually is. Despite killing six people (four of whom are insignificant characters), it feels as though the killer has accomplished very little, and when everything is all said and done, you get to see an ending which leaves much to be desired, as well as an opening for another sequel. The bottom line: While "Silent Night, Deadly Night III: Better Watch Out!" tries to be different, it's also about as slow as molasses in January (or late December). Not highly recommended for anyone, especially the impatient types. |
