"Urban Legend" is fairly typical of the '90's brand of mainstream horror films, which generally have a hip attitude and cast rising stars from television. In some ways, it's highly derivative of "Scream 2." Both movies take place on a college campus and have very similiar characters such as the vigilant, underrated cop and the killer who toys with victims over the telephone. To its credit though, the villain varies the murdering methods throughout the movie and does not resort to the trite guerilla stabbings. The identity of the killer is somewhat of a surprise too. However, some crediblity is sacrificed to keep the plot going as planned in the script. For instance, there are characters making some miraculous recoveries after enduring nasty car accidents and falls of over 20 feet. How do they do it? Are they landing on NERF concrete, or are they just made of rubber? All in all, "Urban Legend" deserves an average rating. It's not bad but not outstanding either. |

** NOTE: The more dots on the domino, the better the movie. 12 dots on the domino is the best rating while no dots means it would only take up valuable space in the dumpster. ** |
