Is this the end of Phantasm? Or does it pretend to be the beginning of it? I hope not. "Phantasm: OblIVion" may be the undoing of the series, in more than one sense. Unlike the other Phantasm movies, this one is lethargic and feels as if the editor blindly hacked it until half of a movie was left. There is very little background music, a vital ingredient for creating atmosphere to a film. Worse yet, the gore is sadly lacking. Before with the the first two Phantasms, the spheres made an unforgetable mess out of anyone unfortunate enough to cross their paths, yet in this fourth installment to the series, the most gore you get is a zombie spewing some yellow gunk in Reggie's throat. Despite all of the atrocities, there are some parts worth watching if you're a fan of the series, such as the origins of the engimatic Tall Man and the previously unreleased footage from the first Phantasm, a far superior movie compared to this one. This is the bottom line: If you collect Phantasm merchandise and really want to know some more secrets to the series, then check out "Phantasm: OblIVion." Otherwise, skip this sequel and watch the original Phantasm instead. |

** NOTE: The more dots on the domino, the more I like it. 12 dots mean that the movie is perfection while no dots means it may actually fertilize your lawn (or kill it). ** |
