Robin Williams is arguably the funniest man alive- his comedic genius is apparent to anyone who has seen him live, or in one of his many comedies. But to many people, that is all they see- a very funny man, nothing 'more'. This is untrue. Robin Williams is also a brilliant actor, whose versatility is a testimony to this.
From playing the shy Dr.Sayer of "Awakenings", or the charismatic, vibrant teacher, Mr.Keating, in "Dead Poets Society" to the hilarious Mrs. Doubtfire in "Mrs. Doubtfire", Robin Williams brings a vibrancy, an immmediacy to each character he plays;almost always a soul-touching performance. Unfortunately, this great talent, Robin's acting brilliance is often forgotton, or ignored, people passing off his comedic and acting genius as, "Just another comedian". Unfortunately, these people are in the minority- Robin Williams just recently won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar at the 1998 Awards for his role in Good Will Hunting. Congratulations to Robin! for Comedy is perhaps the hardest art form to master, because what is funny to one man, is often not to another, but Robin Williams always seems to pull a laugh out of the most serious face. But to those who write off Robin as"just another comedian"- take note, that is not 'all there is'. Whether in a drama, or in comedy, Robin is always 'true-to'life"; his characters beome reality to the watcher, and all have a 'lesson' to teach to those who listen. The one standing 'lesson'of Robin Williams, if it can be so put, seems to be, as "Dead Poets Society" so beautifully related, "Carpe Diem- Sieze the Day!".
