Welcome to Soonger's end of school pictures |
These are some pictures taken in April of 2001. It's my last hurrah at New College. I had a couple of days to tie up loose ends in Toronto before I moved back to Windsor. It was important for me to capture the great people and places where I had very memorable times. And of course, the pictures of my new 2002 Acura 3.2TL Type-S has to be included. It's been almost a year since I have been actively shopping for cars. My search ended at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) this January at the Acura pavillion. They had a nice, silver Type-S on display. Let me tell you it's one of the best times to find yourself a car that suits your needs. I'm a sedan-person. The competitors in this market segment-- Lexus, Infiniti, BMW, Mercedes, Audi-- they all have beautiful products. However, if you look at things on a cost-accessories ratio, Acura cannot be touched. There is also extra bragging rights here in Windsor-- there is no Acura dealership in town (closest dealer in Canada is 2 hours away in London, ON) and the exclusivity of an Acura and its high quality workmanship, is something that definitely played a part in my decision-making process. This picture (62k image) is taken in Julia's old room on the 4th floor. She was my doormate-- she lived in the adjacent room to my covetted corner room. During the final exam period, many of the arts & science students were goofing off for their exams were 2 weeks away. So Julia wanted to socialize and show off all the things her friends asked her to care for during the summer holidays (Julia was staying at New throughout summer). The 66k picture is in Marianne's room. I've known Marianne for 3 years, ever since she moved into New College. She's a B.Comm student-- it's amazing how quickly priorities change after living in residence for a few years. Before, Marianne was one of the most keen people I met-- she would study at least 2 weeks before any test. Now-- she looks like a veteran student-- cramming has become a science! Behind are more floormates who are in pharmacy (Maxine and Sonia). The porter's desk is the first place you go if you're a visitor at New College. They are the liasion that helps you page the person who you are visiting. On the left is my friend, Rashna. She used to be a porter in Wilsom Hall (one-half of New College). Beside her is Leo, the head porter. He's one of the fixtures to New College-- you probably won't meet a nicer guy. A (31k) picture of me and Rashna lounging in the Faculty of Pharmacy student lounge. This is what happens when you leave your camera on the timed setting. I had no idea how revealing sitting in that position would leave me. Oh well-- that's my fault but it won't stop me from posting this image on the Internet. The lounge is the place where most pharmacy students hang out when they have free time between classes. I was lucky to live on campus so I never had to go to the lounge. On the most part, it's pretty dirty so you don't want to stay there too long. SPEP came to a close this April. My second rotation was at St. Michael's Hospital, located in downtown Toronto. The students, Kristina and myself, were treated to a luncheon with our respective preceptors and the pharmacist in charge of teaching students. In the photograph (clockwise) include: myself, Salma, Nancy (my preceptor) and Tom. The restaurant was very nice and the food was very good. Not surprising that many of the staff at St. Mike's frequent this establishment. |
This picture (45k) is at Eastside Mario's on Front Street. Some family friends coming in from New York City called me up to arrange some time for us to go out for supper. Taking the photograph is the brain surgeon, Harrison. I'm in the middle holding the member of the Wong-Mu family, Derrick. Coincidence? Not really-- I'm hoping to set a good example for little D. The proud mother, Theresa, is beside. And the proud grandparents are sitting. Older brother, Mitchell, is being really good and listening to instructions to look AT the camera... This is a picture (77k) taken the day after I picked up my car. Date of delivery: Wednesday, May 9, 2001. That's a day that will be historic for me-- the day I picked up my first car. And what a splendid car it is! A 2002 Acura 3.2TL Type-S. What can I say? A sports sedan with 260 hp, 231 lb-ft torque with 17" wheels, in dash 6 CD player, all the creature comforts you can imagine. I had the factory spoiler added onto the car-- it gives the car a more sporty look to it. The Aegean blue is an exclusive Type-S colour. It's unfortunate that the Type-S does not come in the firepepper red. I think the red is the coolest colour to the car but the blue is very attractive. Another picture of the Type-S from the side angle. I'm taking these pictures from my driveway on Thursday morning. Normally, I don't wake up until 10am on a typical day but this was a special day. I got up before 9 to make the most of the early morning daylight. Perhaps I didn't take into account how bright it would be in the mornings-- the picture is a bit grainy. I'm using ISO200 speed Advantix film. Perhaps future photographs will be using traditional 35mm film. I'm trying to take the car from another angle. Working with the sunlight, the attempt is to capture the 'best angle' of the car. It has a great rear profile-- what is missing are rear mud guards and the underbody kit. I was looking into purchasing the front and back skirts as well as the side aerodynamic kit. The factory kit comes in around $2 grand (Canadian). That's a little pricey for me! I think this is the best picture I've taken of the new car. It's from the side and again, I'm working with the light. The car looks a bit on the big side but I think it's proportionate to the car lines. To my astonishment, it's a bit longer than the 2000 Volvo S70 my parents drive (by a good 6 inches!). Does that make the TL a mid-sized car? The Lexus IS300 looks tiny in comparison! I like the factory rims on this car but when you look at some of the aftermarket things for the TL (a great place to start is Acura-TL.com), the car can look amazing! |
