  Welcome to Soonger's Fourth Year o' Fun pictures

These are some pictures taken in my fourth year of pharmacy school. It's the last semester our class was together. In January 2001, we will be split up across Ontario to complete the last leg of the U of T program-- SPEP (structured practical experience program). Spanning January through April, there are two clinical rotations: two months in a hospital setting, two months in a community setting (not necessarily in that order.) • cream team - 78k

    This picture (78k image) is taken on the 3rd floor of the Faculty of Pharmacy. It's the final instalment of the Cream Team. How did we get the name? The creative one, Victor, gave the nickname Dream Team to the keeners who sit in the front row of each class. They were a "dream team" due to their ability to jot down EVERYTHING that the professor said in each class. In any instance, the 2001 edition of the Cream Team won second place at the CAPSI annual compounding competition. We had to make 4 compounds (liquid, cream, solutions) on a time limit. Not bad, eh? (We won OPA fee guides for our efforts.)

    class council

    The 78k picture is the 2000-2001 class council. This is taken outside of the Faculty Club, right after the Medical Pharmacies presentation. As you can see, it's a little chilly outside. I thought I would be cool to go to the presentation without a jacket and wear a shirt and tie with jeans. (I live next door at New College so not having to wear a jacket wasn't such a bad thing.)

    indian dinner

    This is a group picture (94k) of a bunch of us fourth year students at the annual Indian dinner. It's at a restaurant called Sangam on Bay and College in downtown Toronto. Food was not bad-- some people mysteriously got sick that evening and the next morning. In fact, one student broke out in a very odd rash... Is it coincidence or something they ate at the restaurant? Nothing concrete but I would advise them not to eat there again! (If you're still looking at the picture, I'm somewhere in the back, if you care that much at all...)

    CSHP awards

    A (84k) picture of the winning team-- (l-r) Dora, myself, Rashna. We won the CAPSI poster competition and here we are accepting our award at the CSHP (Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists) Awards Night at the Delta-Chelsea Hotel. Our winning entry was based upon a fictitious congestive heart failure case. It was a heated battle among three teams in our class. Guess our team was lucky and we pulled off a narrow win. Our prize: a free trip to this year's PDW (profession development weekend) in sunny Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in the middle of winter! (Aside: I did not ask to have the corsage placed on my lapel-- it was given to me.)

    phollies

    This 103 kilobyte picture was taken at the annual Pharmacy Phollies. That's where pharmacy students show off their hidden talents. Talent is used loosely-- there are some individuals who have a true talent (singing, playing a musical instrument, etc.) and then there are those who think they have a talent. If you had a chance to watch the fourth year council skit, the dating game, you'll have to really think hard to see where the talent was... Anyway, this is a picture of Charlene, Ashesh and myself.

    phollies

    Another picture (71k) at the Phollies. Here's a picture of my people from Windsor. On the far left is Imran-- he's a Western molecular bio grad student visiting Toronto that weekend so I thought I'd take him to our crusty talent show. In the middle is Renee-- she's in the class and looks like she was going to have a good time at the show. Let's say she had a pretty good time-- a lot better time than our fourth year classes!

    phollies backstage

    This is a backstage picture (87k) taken on the second night of the Phollies. Quite a bit of alcohol was consumed that evening-- it did make things a lot funnier. Another thing: I had nothing to drink at the Phollies-- my face is not red... At the aftershow party however...

    G all dressed up

    My friend, Gurinder, (nickname is simply G) doesn't kid around. He's in traditional garb for his performance. Let me say he is quite talented at beating his own drum (called dhol). Alka is providing G with much needed support. She did surprise the crowd (and myself) by doing an impromptu dance as G played on stage.
