I feel your life’s experiences will best prepare you for writing your script, however, a college education will give you insists to the world around you. You do need to learn how the equipment works and who are the people who make a film happen. I suggest taking video production classes at a local community college, or through cable access. Then you must learn how to use film equipment. It is very different then video equipment and the language of film is very different then video. Again, try to find local sources of film equipment. TV stations again the late 70’s were using handheld film cameras to record the news of the day. Sometimes the TV stations still have these cameras, or they donated them to a local college. Even if your local college no longer has a film program they never throw anything away they might still have all the film equipment. On the web there are some places that teach producing techniques but not operating film equipment. These producer schools are; Cyber Film School Hollywood Film Institute (I went to this two day producers seminar, very informative. You can order their books online.) Rich Schmidt’s Filmmakers Seminars (This is a great hands on the film equipment program. You will make a feature film in 10 days. You live, eat and breath filmmaking in two weeks. Very intense program, however, very rewarding. GET HIS BOOK.) |
