Time Gadget II:

Tripping The Light Fandango

Brianna stood on the beach in her yellow dress. She stared out over the water. The waves rose and crashed. She knew just by looking the water was very cold. She remembered that from the other night. She sighed and closed her eyes and tried to clear her mind of the frightening experience. She stayed liked that for a few minutes before she knew she had company. She didn't even open her eyes.
"What you up to luv?" Davy asked.
"5'1" Davy gave her a strange look. "Nothing." Brianna turned to him.
"You never learned to swim?" Davy asked.
"I never had the chance to." Brianna said. “I might have at one time but its been so long.”
"I just realized that you never told me about yourself." Davy said as they started to walk along the shore. Would you like to?"
Brianna looked at him. "Okay."

2000

Micky and Chea appeared in the middle of her apartment. She looked around for a minute before she remembered where she was.
"Where are we?" Micky asked.
"2000." Chea said. "This is our place. Me and Karens and I guess Briannas now. These must be her clothes." She pointed out a duffle bag on the floor. The TV was on.
"Its exactly as we left it." She covered her nose. "Oh is it ever. We never took the trash out."
"Well when you go out time traveling, you never think of cleaning the place when you leave." Micky said. "What do we do?"
"The landlord still thinks we're gone, so I think it would be a good idea if he doesn’t see us." Chea said. "If we're gonna be here, we better get time orientated clothes." Chea said as she looked down. "When we travel in your dimension we automatically change into that periods clothing, but apparently it doesn’t do that in reality."
"Where can I get something for me?" Micky asked as they went to her room. He stopped quickly he glanced upon her room, or as it was known around the neighborhood, the national shrink of Micky Dolenz. "Wow!"
"Huh?" Chea asked seeing Mickys reaction to her room. "I know. You probably think I'm nuts now." She sat him down on the bed. Luckily for her there was never a Micky bedspread made. "An explanation is probably in order. In the real world the Monkees were a real group with real people and real hits. There is a Micky Dolenz in this world, along with everyone else in the group." She picked up her lp copy of headquarters. "You groups made several albums, you guys are really famous here. For a short period of time you actually outsold the Beatles and the Rolling stones." She put Headquarters back on the shelf. She took the bio book she had of him and showed it to him. "This is you, later on." She said as she pointed out the picture on the back. "Its not a recent picture." She said grabbing her copy of Justus from her cd rack. "The real you is about 55-56 now."
"Am I married?" He said looking at the cd. "Wow. Damn it Davy, you never age!"
Chea laughed. She put the cd on. "You got married twice, last I know you were single, but I think you have four daughters."
"Amazing." Micky said.
They sat quietly as a couple of songs played. Chea decided not to tell him the bit about the band not being "real" until much later, what he was already shown had already blown his mind.
"What you guys did in the to world is here." She showed him her extensive Rhino video collection. She thumbed through the tapes till she got to the episode she wanted. She figure they roughly appeared after Davy and Fern. She popped in the tape and fast forwarded to the next episode. The intro started to play. A second into it they noticed something different about the opening credits.
"Oh my god, its us!" Chea said. "Look, the four of you guys as usual, then a whole bunch of scenes with me and Karen. It's like we're an official part of the show." She rewound it and showed Micky the intro again.
"I see it now." Micky pointed. "They bill you as the neighbor girls though."
"Hey, that aint so bad. I was once an extra, they called me coughing girl." Chea said.
"Is that some kind of Indian name?" Micky joked.
"I have some clothes for you." Chea said digging out a box. "I had an old boyfriend who was about your size." She threw him a pair of jeans an a UCLA shirt. Micky ducked into the closet while Chea changed into a poet shirt and a short billowy skirt. Micky came out of the closet to see Chea brushing her hair in the mirror.
"That’s a pretty outfit." He said.
"Thanks." She smiled.
"It doesn’t seem real 2000 though." He confessed.
"I know but not there is no such thing as a definite 2000 style yet, the century had just begun. Mostly people dress for comfort nowadays." She put on her clogs. "This is what I feel good in."
"I feel pretty good in this. Those tight pants can really get on your nerves after a while." Micky said.
"Wanna go explore? I can show you everything." Chea said.
"I bet." He chuckled impishly.
"Micky." She chided him, shaking her head. "Come on, times a wasting." They headed for the front door.
"That reminds me." He said and pocketed the device on the way out.

Davy and Brianna walked by the shore. Davy had run into his place to get a jacket for Brianna and herself. The breeze off the ocean was getting cold. Brianna rubbed her arms until Davy ran to get the jackets. After that they made their way north.

"I moved around a lot." Brianna said. "I'm not a California native. I was born in Nebraska. Dawson Village. A very small town." She explained. "I'm an army brat. We moved from there to all over the country. We were even in England once. After I graduated high school at 14, I'm a child prodigy, I went from there to college. After that I got a job here. Well the real here. I was looking for a new place to stay while I started my internship." Brianna said.
"So you're a doctor?" Davy said.
"Not yet." Brianna said. "I have a long road ahead. I was looking forward to it too. It would have been a a great challenge. Life as a prodigy was pretty tough if you already know more than your classmates." she smiled. "I was going to start after my vacation, but now I'm here and I don't know what to do with myself." Brianna stopped.
"Don't think too hard on it." Davy suggested. "You said yourself its your vacation right?" Brianna nodded. "Then why not enjoy yourself?"
Brianna looked back at Davy. He smiled at her.
"That sounds like a nice idea." Brianna said.
"We got that gig in an hour or two, why not come with us? It'll give you a chance to hear me and the guys play."
"I'd like that." Brianna said.
"Come on, lets go back." Davy said. "We can plan stuff to do tomorrow."
"Great." Brianna said. She followed him back to the house.
The attraction to him was unbelievable. But there was one or two things holding her back. One: She didn’t belong here, and she wanted to go back. Two: She neglected to tell him that she had been seeing a guy named Greg when she got zapped here. If she let herself indulge in her feelings for Davy, real or fake, she would feel like she was cheating on Greg. But then again Greg hadn’t been by in weeks, he wouldn’t even know she was gone. As she thought of this she tried to decided it was good or bad.
