The Time Gadget II:

I'm Not In Love

Brianna had just come back inside with walking with Davy, basically telling him her life story. There wasn't that much of it to tell. The guys had a gig in two hours, and they need to practice some songs they were going to try that night.

Unfortunately Chea and Micky were nowhere to be found.

"Don't worry." Karen reassured a reasonably freaked out Mike. "I think they went on a little time adventure."
"But what if they come late for the gig, or not at all?" Mike asked. He wrung his hat in his hand.
"Give me that." Karen took his hand. He put his hands together. "They may be a goofy two, but they wouldn't be irresponsible enough to not come back for a gig."
"I guess you're right." Mike sighed.
"I am right." Karen said. "Relax. Breathe. In and out in and out."

Micky and Chea were having the time of their lives. The first thing Chea thought of doing was going to the local amusement park. They rode the carousel and the roller coaster for what seemed liked forever. As they climbed onto a tunnel of love ride they discussed what to do next.
"Well we have that gig in a while." Micky said remembering the gig they had managed to get at the Vincent Van Go-Go. "When should we go back?"
"Doesn't matter with this." Chea said reminding him of the time gadgets abilities. "We can show up an hour before we leave, anytime we want to."
"Good point." Micky said. "How about we see a movie? I wanna see what kind of movies the future produces."
"Cool." Chea said. They rode through the tunnel the rest of the way basically talking about the park and on the verge of making out again. But they didn't, suddenly they were very self conscious about public displays of affection, very unusual for a pair that had literally got hosed off once. By Karen of course. Chea and Micky disembarked from the ride and headed for a a movie theater that she knew of. On the way they picked up a paper to scan through the show times.
"At this theater I love to go to, they once said they were have a film festival. They have one every summer." Chea said flipping it open to the entertainment section.
"Here we are. The Meadow Park Cinema." Micky pointed.
"Hey, they ARE doing a film festival. Oscar week, in fact." Chea said.
"What’s playing?" Chea said.
"Eh, a lot of older stuff." She said scanning the list. "Today’s the last day." She then found what she was looking forward. "Wow!"
"What?"
"They're showing Titanic!" Chea beamed. "Remember the thing with the balcony we did?"
"Yeah." Micky said recalling.
"Would you like to go see it?" Chea said. "It'll be fun."
"Sure." Micky said. "If we hurry we can make it before the previews." Micky grabbed her hand and ran across the street.

While Chea and Micky went to watch the Leo DiCaprio flick, Mike paced through the room. Davy and Peter watch him walk from one end of the room to another. He seemed to wearing a small rut into the floor. Finally Peter couldn't take it anymore and got up. He stopped the seemingly dazed Mike in his tracks.
"Mike, why not walk over there for a while, it might help you." He said.

"Okay." Mike said and walked over to where Karen was. "Thanks."
Peter smiled and nodded.
"What do we do?" Davy asked.
"We can always cancel." Peter volunteered.
"No. We're starting to run out of that money from the contest." Mike said. "The show has to go on."
"But who will drum?" Karen asked. "We were gonna try a whole bunch of new songs tonight."
"They'll just have to wait for another day." Mike said as Brianna came in dressed for the gig. She had on a pair of blue flare pants and a matching shirt. This did not go unseen by Davy who sat up when she came in.

"Are we going to this thing or not?" She asked.
"We're trying to decide that now." Karen said. "Micky and Chea haven't come back yet."
"Can you play anything?" Mike asked Brianna, hoping beyond hope.
"I've gotten pretty good at playing the fool. But musical stuff? No." She shook her head.
"We're gonna have to decide when we get there." Mike said. "We're gonna be late."
The others quickly packed up the car. Davy opened up the door for Brianna. She got in, then he got in next to her.

The theater

Micky and Chea were thoroughly intrigued with the movie even though everyone knows how it ends. A lot of people were watching this movie for the third or fifth time. They sat quietly while munching their popcorn.
After it was over they were the first to leave. Micky walked out with his arm behind her back.
"You know what I'm thinking?" Micky asked her as they went around the corner.
"What?" Chea asked.
"I was remembering the thing we did on the front of the ship, and I was watching the movie and I thought maybe it would be fun to go back for a while." Micky offered. At least a little while before the thing actually sinks."
"You know if we really wanted to be weird we could always stop it from sinking." Chea said.
"Yeah, but would they believe a couple of kids from the future or throw us in the brig for not having tickets?" He asked.
"True." Chea said. "I guess there are things you shouldn't change."
"What do you think, should we go?" Micky asked.
"I dunno. I keep thinking we should go back." Chea said. "I keep getting a funny feeling."
"Mike?" Micky asked. "He wont be that mad if we're late or whatever."
"Okay." Chea said. "Let's just be careful."
They ducked into the alley and activated the device. They were gone before you could even blink.

The landlords place

The sleazy landlord Brianna had talked to only the day before was sleeping in his apartment when a knock was heard at his door. He grumbled and got off of the couch he was lying on. He stumbled to the door, in a semi drunk stage.
"Hello?" He said and opened the door. There was a lovely looking couple standing there.
"Hi, we hear you have an apartment for rent?" The woman said.
"Well not yet, but we will have a place open in a few days." The landlord said. "Whats your name?"
"Oh we're Paul and Jane Peterson." The couple said.
"Why don't you come with me? I'm sure I can just show it to you." He said.
"That would be great." "Jane" said.
The landlord stumbled off to get his pass key. Jane looked at "Paul".
"If anything the device was left in the apartment. I'm willing to bet my life on it." She said. "If its there, then these disguises worked like a charm."
The landlord came back with the key. "Its this way." He said.
After listening to the man struggle and huff his way up the stairs they finally made it to the apartment. The landlord looked inside. It seemed like someone had been in it in the last few hours. The tv in one of the bedrooms was on and there was some clothes scattered on the floor. One such pile coming from a closet was unmistakingly guys clothes.
"I'll show you around." The landlord volunteered taking them around.
"I'll catch up." Paul said while the landlord left with Jane. He opened the small drawers and doors on the cabinet next to the TV. He reasoned if anyone was gonna hide a goofy device, this would be it. But to his surprise, it was gone. Jane quickly came out of the bathroom.
"I got him distracted with a sink problem. Did you find it?" She asked.
"No." He said. An alarm sounded on his watch, much like it did before when they were in Uncle Jessups basement. "More movement, in fact they've gone into another dimension." He said.
"Do you know which one? Can we catch up?" Jane asked as they examined their own device.
After they watched it for a second Paul had his answer. "Yes."
"Don't waste any time. We gotta go now." Jane said. Paul programmed the device. In a flash they were gone. The flash subsided from the room as the creepy landlord came out of the bathroom.
"I don't see anything wrong with the sink..." He stopped as he saw the apartment was empty. "Thats it. I'm definitely in the wrong business."
He said and locked the place up.

Mike and the guys worked out the set list on the way to the gig. It was decided that Davy would play on a couple of songs, and that Karen would be backup in case he got tired. Karen decided to put the new songs on hold until Micky got back. For then they decided on "Look out here comes tomorrow","Papa Genes Blues","Daydream Believer" and "Valleri."

Karen and Brianna sat down at the front of the stage. Karen watched Brianna watch Davy as he played.
"He's pretty good isn't he?" Brianna said in awe.
"You like him don't you?" Karen asked.
"Yeah." Brianna sighed. "I guess I do."
"Maybe I can put you two together." Karen volunteered.
"Really?" She asked with hope in her voice. "I dunno."
"Why not?" Karen asked.
"I have a boyfriend back in my world. Great guy, his name is Greg." Brianna said. "He was gonna work with me at the hospital during my internship. But we haven't seen each other in weeks, and now I'm here."
"I see." Karen said.
"We aren't officially broken up but I didn't get a chance to find out." Brianna said. "We were so close, then we weren't."
"How about this. We can set you and Davy up on a thing, but it wouldn't be a date." Karen offered. "What do you think?"
"Hmmm." Brianna said. "I'd like that."
"I'll talk to him during the break then." Karen said as Mike played the last string on Papa Genes Blues.
"I'll be back." Brianna said going off the bathroom. Karen up and briefly chatted with Mike about the set list, then turned to Davy who seemed to be staring off into space.
"Davy?" She asked. She then followed his gaze to a blond girl at the bar. "Oh no." Brianna came back from the bathroom. "I hope she doesn't see this."
Brianna went up to the stage. She saw Davy waving at this girl at the bar. She felt her face flush bright red.
"Ahhhh!" She practically screamed. It was enough to get the attention of the entire room, Davy included.
"Oh my god, luv, I'm sorry. It happens." He confessed.
"Thats ok. Go for it!" she said angrily. "We're not dating anyway! Why should I mind???" She stormed off in the direction of the door.
"I'll get her." Karen said to Mike. They started to play again. She found Brianna at the coat rack.
"Are you all right?" Karen asked.
"I'm fine. It's ok. If Davy wants to chase some psychedelic bimbo rather than..." She stopped feeling the tears coming back to her eyes. "The sun can rise and set, but whether or not he likes me or I like him..." She tried to regain her composure. "My world does not revolve around Davy Jones." Brianna sniffed and headed for the door. Davy stared after her mystified, unaware that he had done anything wrong.
