If you are looking for what is new around here, well, you've come to the right place. You will find out what changes/additions have been made to this site, what changes are expected, and other related news like a re-release of the soundtrack.
6/11/99 No big update here, just a few minor things. I added some more information to the soundtrack FAQ page. I also corrected one name mistake I made somewhere before anyone noticed...phew! And a new option has been added to the great bee debate.
6/7/99 Wow, again, it's been a while since the last update. Well, as you should know, the DVD was finally released. Even though the packaging does not mention it, it has one of the two alternate endings. The trailer has the deleted scenes mentioned below. Unfortunately, the trailer is full-screen. Some new things you'll find here are: And 'Burbsday (observed) was a great sucess. This was my first 'Burbs party so I guess a sequel is inevitalbe--'Burbsday 2000. Just look around the site and you'll find something new. Some new things include: a soundtrack information page, a timeline, some trivia sent in by visitors, a ton of rare pictures, and some other goodies.
3/28/99 It has been quite a while since the last update. Although I still have plenty of ideas for the site, I'm still not ready to start a new area since I overdosed on redoing the site a little over a month ago. This update simply includes some new intro page music, less loading time on some pages, and a little new news. The DVD front and back cover artwork can finally be seen here. Take notice at the new picture on the back from a menu screen. I promise to start working on some more stuff soon. I've been pretty busy lately and I worked really hard to get as much done as I have. I don't have much motivation yet to start new stuff. I did add one thing however, check out the new section on the Art's Wife page. It is not much, it just shows what Mayfield Place used to look like.
3/2/99 If you don't want to be spoiled by finding out what new scenes are on the DVD trailer, read no further. There have been rumors as to what has been cut from the movie--John's page describes some things in the script left out of the which were in the script. But some scenes in the script may have been filmed and some scenes that were thought of until after the script was written could have been filmed. So, how do we know what was cut? How do we know which scenes were even filmed? This is not the answer, but it does let us know a little more into some missing scenes from the movie. After looking at the actual 35mm trailer (with no sound), we here at Mafield Place found a few scenes which were cut. (1) There is a scene where Ray is barbecuing and the flame gets a 'little' large (apparently he fixed it). (2) There is some scene where Ray is talking to Carol (the night when the watch Jeopardy according to their clothes). It is a close-up of Ray's face and he is standing next to a mirror in which Carol can be seen sitting on the couch. What are they saying, I guess we'll need to wait for the DVD. (3) Next, you know the part when Art says "Get outta here ya' mangy mut." and then he falls? Well, falling isn't the end of it. He falls and his feet get caught on the alarm wire and he hangs upside-down by his feet where Ricky and Dave look at him. (4) There is a scene where Werner says something after his house has blown up. Could this be the infamous alternate ending? (5) Lastly, there is a scene where Ray, Ricky, and Bonnie are standing next to a ladder which is going up to the roof of a house. According to their clothes, it is the same day as when they break into Walter's house. This is not that big of a deal, but the 'BURBS logo which is either pink with a blue shadow, pink with a white shadow, or orangy-yellow with a redish shadow, is colored yellow with a blueish-green backgound on the trailer. All of the other scenes in the trailer are in the film. There may be some similar angles with cut out dialogue so there could be some new stuff as well. Another thing is that bomb-shell type thing. I had the picture up before but I took it down. We may never have all the answers.
2/28/99 Some bad news: the release date for the DVD has been extended to May 4th. Sorry.
2/13/99 As you probably noticed, this site has had a lot of revisions--minor and major. These changes are mainly in celebration of the 10-year anniversary. There is now a Real Video clip of Brother Theodore on Letterman promoting The 'BURBS. I was fortunate enough to see several times he was on the show and it cracked me up. Also, many of the rare pictures have been taken down. I'm trying to get good quality pictures instead of those fuzzy ones. I will add a page every now and then. There are still some things that are going to be added at later dates, but this site is really getting how I wanted it to be. So take a look around the site and see if what's new. The links page is also much bigger.
2/1/99 Ahh, Universal has finally decided that The 'BURBS deserves a re-release (hopefully due to my many e-mails). The DVD is set to include: widescreen version, theatrical trailer, cast bios, prod. notes, closed captioning, optional French dubbed language, web link, etc. This is very exciting for Mayfield Place. What does this mean for you? New pictures that are posted can finally be in the shape of how the movie was filmed and the quality of larger images will be much better. Now, we can finally find out how some of those tricky lines go. Also, a link has been added for Brother Theodore's (we know him as Rube) Page. You can actually e-mail him!
1/1/99 I finally finished two more pages of Did You Knotice--also, instead of calling it Did You Notice, I'm calling it Did You Knotice...cute, huh? I finally got the site listed in the IMDB so maybe more people will be able to find it. After my next section, I promise I will work on the rare page even though I have more stuff to get. Lastly, remember, the 10-year 'BURBS anniversary is February 17th so I am planning on having the update by that time.
11/14/98 Some minor things have been fixed. Broken links, different backgrounds, and some spelling errors have been fixed. The main fix is the brokne real audio links on the "did you notice?" pages. Also, the "did you notice" pages became very hard to read since the reconstrucion--now there are borders around the pictures and descriptions.
Exact Date Unknown Mayfield Place made a contribution to the Internet Movie Database's taglines for "The 'burbs." Check them out here. Where did you obtain these you might ask, well, just look at the 'Burbs mysteries page.
10/18/98 Mayfield Place's reconstruction is complete. The re-done site has more features, more areas, more information, more picture, and more goodies as well as MP3 files from the soundtrack. It also has a nice new interface that utilizes Java and has a better look and format. Actually, it isn't truly complete. There are still a couple more sections that need to be finished.
Exact Date Unknown Mayfield Place got a new logo and changed name from "Mayfield Place: Jake's Ultimate 'BURBS Site" to "Mayfield Place: Jake's 'BURBS Site" or just "Mayfield Place."
c.a. 08/20/98 Mayfield Place received a small face lift including: a new navigational bar, more "Did you Notice?," Rumfield's Kids, and updated the Real Video and Real Audio files to be "streamed" instead of downloaded. The animated logo was updated to look better and was longer.
c.a. 8/15/98 The animated logo is updated once again, this time with the opening scene and an added welcome message.
c.a. 7/18/98 Mayfield Place added an animated welcome logo.
c.a. 07/06/98 Mayfield Place posted "Did you Notice?," a sound and picture gallery, and updated links.
06/23/98 After 2 days of construction, Mayfield Place goes up for the first time. Not having a lot of options or a very nice design, Mayfield Place still got good reviews. Most options at that time were disabled, leaving only a links page and a Real Video clips page.
