"I don't give a shit if I look like a freak, look at me
right now:this is part of what's so sad about the business. They build you up-they take
me, see they make me look pretty, they put the stuff in the hair, put the makeup on, snap
the picture-then when they decide that I'm f*cked-up and on the downward spiral, they
start using the picture someone's snapped where I've just gotten off a plane, flown all
night through 7 time zones and I'm in mid-blink. while they like you, they use the good
picture. But when word gets out that you might be doing drugs, when word gets out, right
or wrong, that you, gasp, had drinks at a party, they dig up this picture and
say Oh, look, he's stoned at the airport, he's stoned all the time." ---
Joaquin Phoenix
and to all of you who dont already know it: today 5 years ago River died.Wednesday, Oct 28 1998
Happy birthday, Joaquin!!!! It`s his 24th birthday today!
You can visit Joaquin now at celebsite.com!!! He
is the today`s star! Look what it says about my site:
"The pronunciation guide here points out that his name is pronounced
"Waa-Keen," but the way we figure it, when you`re visiting, you should say
"Way Keen," `cause that`s what we think the site is. We find the photo gallery
and movie clips especially yummy, doncha know, but the articles section and page of quotes
are nothing to sneeze at either."
Also you will find there a really long bio.

CYBERSLEAZE...10/23
LIV TYLER AND JOAQUIN PHOENIX CALL IT QUITS: Leading indie acting queen LIV TYLER and
longtime beau JOAQUIN PHOENIX have reportedly called it quits on their relationship after
three years. Apparently Tyler, who is the daughter of AEROSMITH frontman STEVEN TYLER,
dumped her longtime love to start dating English rocker ROYSTON LANGDON who is (or should
we say WAS) one of Phoenix's friends!! Langston (who I can confirm is quite a hottie...)
is a member of the NYC- based band glam rock band SPACEHOG. Langston and Tyler have
recently been spotted getting cuddly in some of the more dimly lit New York nightspots.
The two probably met when Tyler and Phoenix went on a road trip with some of the members
of the band. Ironically, Joaquin recently went on the DAVID LETTERMAN SHOW and spent the
entire time talking about his "good friends" in SPACEHOG and the fantastic road
trip they had all just taken together! Doh!! No wonder he refused to tell Dave anything
about his relationship with Liv when Dave asked him!
Meanwhile, Tyler's family doesn't seem to be too upset about the latest turn of
events. Tyler's mother BEBE BUELL confirmed the couple's split recently and added that she
was pretty pleased that her daughter and Phoenix had parted ways. Apparently the actor,
who is the brother of the late RIVER PHOENIX, was considered by Momma to be a bit quirky
and perhaps not the most reliable of boyfriends for her daughter. However, we should
probably caution Liv's momma that we have partied hearty with the Spacehog boys and can
confirm that reliability is not really Royston's middle name either. But, then again,
Buell knows all about what it is like to date a rocker. Aside from her Liv-producing
affair with Steven Tyler she also had flings with ELVIS COSTELLO and TODD RUNDGREN.

Shocking news from E!Online:
Liv Tyler, 19, and boyfriend of three years Joaquin Phoenix, 23, are reportedly on the
outs. According to the New York Daily News, the formerly lovestruck couple has called it
quits, with Tyler now dating a member of the band Spacehog. Tyler and Phoenix met on the
set of Inventing the Abbott and claimed it was love at first sight.
and from NewYork Daily News:
Hollywood sweethearts Liv Tyler and Joaquin Phoenix are on the outs. "They broke
up recently, and she is now dating someone in the band Space Hogg," says a friend of
the couple, who had been dating for three years. "They still care a lot for each
other but just couldn't work it out." It's a small world, considering that Phoenix'
sister, Summer, is dating one of his best buddies, a band member named Anthony. Neither
Tyler's publicist, Steven Huvane, nor Phoenix' rep would comment on the split.
and Mr.Showbiz says:
... But, as always, keep in mind that the couple has been dogged by similar rumors in
the past, and they were very much together at the Clay Pigeons premiere in September,
dancing cheek to cheek.

In the "Rolling stone" (issue of OCT 15, on the cover is marilyn manson) you
will find a pic of Joaquin and Liv at new Virgin Megastore in NY.
Double date: Cibo mattos Yuka Honda, Sean Lennon, Liv Tyler and Joaquin Phoenix
at the new Virgin Megastore in NY. The hip and famous turned out in droves to deflower the
monolithic Virgin Megastore at New Yorks Union Squaer. People boozed it up while checking
out the inventory and the live sets by the legendary PETULA CLARK,DAVLD GARZA and SEAN
LENNON,who was joined by RZA as BOBBY DIGITAL."the coolest guy I have ever been
onstage with," gushed lennon. "I feel like retiring now. I asked him how he got
here and he said,Though a telephone wire." Backstage, VHis spokesmodel, ROSHUMBA,
tirelessly rehearsed her between-band patter, while LIV TYLER and JOAQUIN PHOENIX made the
scene-a little too late. "Sean was the reason we came, and we missed him." Tyler
said with a laugh."I was also hoping this would be like one of those contests where
you get a shopping cart and, like, ten minutes to grab records."
I found a new fanpage for the link section: Joaquin

A test screening review:
"I saw 8 MM in August in Phoenix at a sneak. They hadn't finished the credits or the
music, and the editing needed some help, too! Joaquin was definitely the best thing in the
film; he
did a great job and was a shining light in a film that was depressing, dark, and too
reminiscent of Paul Schrader (Hardcore), or even Brian DePalma, but without the edge. I
usually love Nicholas Cage, but I was bored. But the friends I was with liked it."

Take a look at the River Phoenix - fanpage called "Little Phoenix", there you
will find a featurestory on
"Leaf". It`s quite funny, listen: "...Yep, I became a tad fixated on
the lad, but can you blame me? He's got that certain je ne sais quoi. That Phoenix appeal
if you will. My secret desire was to someday meet the leaf, fall madly in love and make
baby Phoenixes..." The girl who made the page thinks that Liv Tyler is a slut. (I
don`t think so, do you think so?)

Sunday, Oct 4 1998
there is a special on Clay
Pigeons on People Online! Interviews with Janeane Garofalo, Vince Vaughn and of course
Joaquin!
some excerpts:
Much has been made of the fact that you and Vince Vaughn did Clay Pigeons and Return
to Paradise back to back and that you became friends. How did that happen?
It was coincidental. I know that Vince likes to think that he got us
together again [in Return to Paradise], that he said, "Joaquin -- he's a talent, you
want him in this movie." But the director didn't even know that we had finished
shooting Clay Pigeons....So it was organic, which was really nice.
You recently finished shooting 8MM, a Joel Schumacher movie. What's the difference between
making a big movie like that and something small like Clay Pigeons?
The amount of time -- we shot Clay Pigeons in six weeks with six-day
weeks, so it was really brutal. It was a much longer shoot for 8MM. Here's the thing: In
8MMyou get the trailer, it's grand. In Clay Pigeons, they say, "If you don't mind,
share with Vince, because your trailer's been repossessed."
Is it difficult, after an intense shoot, to part ways with your costars?
It's strange. On [the upcoming drama] The Yards, we all --
particularly Charlize [Theron] and me -- had really powerful scenes with each other, where
you just know somebody's soul, completely exposed. And suddenly, everyone's packing up,
"Yeah, we'll see each other," but it's never going to be the same. I don't know
how much you know them and how much you know their characters. It's tough sometimes. I
stay in touch. I talk to every director I've worked with, and a lot of the actors also.
You've done your share of dark movies -- any interest in doing a big broad comedy?
Absolutely. But the thing is, when are we going to find a Dr.
Strangelove again? That's what I love, it really explores the characters. Some of the
broader comedies are just kind of dumb. There's nothing wrong with laughing, but I'm
really picky about dialogue.
How do you develop a character?
The minute I read To Die For, I knew that I wanted the character to
have that Billy Ray Cyrus sort of hair. So I had them put in some extensions and pierce
the ear. I thought this was a really ridiculous hair style, and I still do. But it's
funny, in Canada, I'm walking to the set laughing about it, and I look up and like 60
percent of the crew has this haircut -- the hockey cut.

You can find a spotlight on Joaquin right
here. (also you can see there a a pic of the P.O.V. -cover and another one from Clay
Pigeons)
some excerpts:
Any article about Joaquin Phoenix will use one of the following adjectives,
guaranteed: "eccentric," "different," "dark,"
"mysterious." These are accurate terms, for the most part -- Phoenix certainly
marches to a different beat than most blossoming young actors. "What
I search for in my work is an honesty in storytelling, with characters that evolve in a
realistic fashion"
8mm
In an upcoming issue of Premiere, its revealed the Joel Schumacher-directed/Nicolas
Cage-starring thriller "8mm" is being apparently ripped to shreds by the MPAA
ratings board. The film, which follows a detective searching for the source of a 8mm film
reel in the underground pornography world, is filled with numerous and graphic scenes
(mainly in photographs) that will apparently shock. One of the scenes the public has been
told thats being cut involves a crucified Goth girl and an electric cattle prod
(gross!!!), and that ain't supposed to be the worst of it. This is slightly confusing,
since test screening reviews indicate that while the film is pretty shocking, its not up
there with the gross-out elements of films like "Seven". This film could get an
NC-17, but they will probably make it an ultra-gory R, like SEVEN was.
Phoenix's character's name is Max California. Joaquin plays a porn shop cashier who is
much smarter and worldly than his outward appearance would indicate, as he quickly catches
on to what Cage's character is doing and offers to help him navigate through the
underbelly of the mainstream porn industry.
a review says:
Most notable was Joaquin Phoenix, who did a great job considering how small his part
was (he had good chemistry with Cage and they shared a nice on screen relationship).

A fan told me that Joaquin will appear in the Letterman-Show on Tuesday, October 6th.
(Joaquin in a latenight-show?? very strange!) The other guests are Elisabeth and Bob Dole.
Thursday, Oct 1 1998
I got that information from a Joaquin-fan:
The Sept/Oct "Manhattan File" has him on the cover, the table of contents, plus
very hunky pics on the "letter from the editor" page (with the editor
"touching" and "massaging" him), on top of having three more full-page
photos with the full page article. Also, there is a small picture of him with Kate Moss
and Liv Tyler at the New York premiere of Clay Pigeons in "New York" magazine.
