Mrs Bill sez: Did You Shake Your Head This Week?

Let's talk about employment discrimination - or is that Just Plain Stupidity?

I have a question for the Management at 5050 Yonge Street, regarding your lack of action to prevent abuse of employees with mental illness. Are you continuing to avoid action on this issue because A) You don't know about mental illness and you are too overloaded to spend the time required for research? B) You don't know about mental illness and are too stupid to care? C) You know exactly what you are doing and you don't care?

On September 12th, an executive at the Board admitted that, if someone actually does die as a result of your instructions, the Board will be spending time in court. Must someone die before you change?

Oh, those wacky Southern Baptist leaders!

Southern Baptists have voted to boycott Disney productions because the Disney corporation attempts to avoid discrimination.

Why not demand that all parking spots for ppl with disabilities be returned to parking for whomever gets there first? Why not boycott any store or company that produces coloured paint - after all, many colours are the result of mixing black and white at some point in the process. Maybe they should insist that candies like jelly beans and covered chocolates be sold by colour, not by the box or bag?
Hey - why not boycott any company who gives employees sick time? After all, if you get sick, it means you aren't caring for your body, which as we all know is the temple of the lord - if you get sick, it means you have sinned, so why should you be rewarded with time off work?

It's about time we found some new hobbies for these Southern Baptist leaders, doncha think?

As reported by Bob Holliday in The Winnipeg Sun: In 1995, a Winnipeg man was brutally beaten during a mugging. After 14 months in a coma, the man died. His teenage assailant could not be tried for murder because, under English common law (on which the Canadian justice system is based), a person who lives a year and a day past an assault can't be classified as a murder victim. This time limit was possibly appropriate when science couldn't keep people alive after vicious attacks. With today's technology, this law meant the 17-year-old assailant could only be charged with aggravated assault, and received a sentence of 28 months of closed custody. According to Don McLean, Winnipeg's superintendent of investigative services: "The police would welcome a change in the law.".
The laws are not keeping pace with technology. Canada, we've just completed a national election. Let's get to work to pull our law-makers, kicking and screaming if necessary, into the latter-half of the twentieth century!

Can someone please explain to Preston Manning that he is the leader of the official opposition, and not the Prime Minister? Canadians re-elected the Liberals as their national leaders on June 2/97. The Reform Party, led by Preston Manning, is the official opposition. In a complete breach of protocol, Mr. Manning made his victory speech after the Prime Minister's. Mr. Manning also spoke exclusively in English. Instead of graciously accepting his position as leader of the official opposition and saying "Tomorrow the work begins", Mr. Manning followed in the steps of his arch-rival, Jacques Parizeau, and alienated many Canadians with his unkind remarks. Perhaps someone should explain the parliamentary process to him - he seems to be confused.

May, 1997A 36-yr old, 105-pound, Toronto woman died on March 17/97, when her throat was slashed. Her husband has been arrested for her murder. The day before she was killed, this woman complained to police that her husband of 19 years had hit her. The police response was to strip-search her and charge her with spousal assault. Later, police held a news conference to explain their actions. During this conference, police blamed the couple's 2 teenage children for providing evidence that led them to charge the abused wife instead of the tall, burly husband.

Oh duh, if I were an abused wife, who called in police to gain protection from a much larger, much stronger, abusive husband, and the police tried to strip-search me, I would not be charged with spousal abuse ... I would be charged with resisting arrest and assault and battery of a police officer ... you would not be reading my obituary ... and the police would have a lot of explaining to do ... which, in my humble opinion, is the very least that's required in this case. Happy Mother's Day, eh?

As reported by Gary Oakes, a staff reporter for the Toronto Star, on Saturday, April 26/97:

Jamie Paul Spencer, 20, of no fixed address, is 6-foot-4 and 250 pounds. He is also reported to be bisexual, deeply disturbed, and devoid of conscience. He's been convicted of sexually assaulting a 14-yr-old girl. It is not known if Jamie has AIDS. What is known is, he pleaded guilty to a charge of sexually assaulting a 5-foot-8, 130 pound, 16-yr-old boy while in detention, the night before Jame was sentenced for assaulting the teenage girl. It is reported that Jamie has a history of violence which started when he was about 4, including setting fires and torturing animals. Jamie has been suicidal. He frequently slashes himself, and claims to "feel better" when he bleeds.

Oh duh, since Jamie is violent, incapable of remorse, and suicidal ... why don't we let him commit suicide? Or am I being logical again?
