October 2005 Updates Monday, Oct. 03, 2005
Bruce had an extremely difficult time when he first started being weaned from the Prednisone. In fact, I almost called 911 a couple of times! Thankfully, although he still hasn't been weaned from the Prednisone completely, now the withdrawal symptoms aren't as bad as they were before. Only a couple of more weeks & he should be off of it completely! Yeah!!
As of a few weeks ago, Bruce's kidney function had gotten a bit worse. He did another 24 hour urine this week & had more blood work done...we'll get the results from those on Wednesday.

Bruce's blood creatinine has gone up a bit more.
Since Bruce is having such a difficult time with the symptoms of Cushing's Syndrome, he has to slow down on how quickly he's tapering off of the Prednisone. Instead of being on it for only a couple of more weeks, he'll be on it for at least 6 more weeks.
The nephrologist has agreed to letting Bruce do peritoneal dialysis, but he wants Bruce to get an access put in for hemodialysis just in case it's needed some time.

This isn't lymphoma-related, but we'd really appreciate it if you'd say a prayer for our 12 year old granddaughter. She has proteinuria! On Monday she has to have more urine tests and blood tests done, and she has to have a renal ultra-sound done. On Nov. 2nd she has to see a pediatric nephrologist.
Two questions are running through our minds...Could she have an inherited kidney disease, the same thing as whatever has caused Bruce's kidney failure? Or, could her kidney problem be related to the e-coli she had several years ago? You may have heard about the largest outbreak of e-coli in the U.S. in 1999, where children contacted e-coli at a county fair. Our granddaughter was one of the children that was severely ill with the e-coli, she was hospitalized for a week with it.
Suddenly, the thought of Bruce needing dialysis doesn't seem so bad. Better him, than our granddaughter!
