Herbal boosters, or enhancers, are supplements you can take to give the serotonin regulating herbs an extra kick. For some, these herbal boosters might be all that is needed to have a positive effect on you and therefore you could exclude the other herbs and supplements listed on this site.

  • Omega 3 Fatty Acids:  I guess scientists have discovered that our synapses, those are the junctions in our nervous system that transmit serotonin through our body, are made from Omega 3 Fatty Acids. And by taking Omega 3's we can bring health back to those synapses, which in turn will have a better effect on your serotonin flow. Omegas 3’s are available in many different supplements such as fish oil, flax seed oil and cod liver oil. Go with fish oil or flax seed oil first.

  • The B Vitamins:  The B vitamins are also great for regulating the flow of all your neurotransmitters. I have read testimonials from people with BI-POLOR disorder claiming that taking B vitamins throughout the day has helped them more than any prescription anti depressant. The B vitamins will enhance the effects of 5-HTP, ST Johns Wort and SAM-e

  • Folic Acid-Multi Vitamins:  Multi Vitamins are always good. Folic Acid has a nice effect and enhances the affects of these herbs, too. I like to take a supplement available at vitamin stores and 7-11 stores called "Herbal Uptimes." Herbal Uptimes have Folic Acid, B vitamins, and other stimulating substances. They make me feel warm, fuzzy and inspired like caffeine, only without the crash !
