Morning heart rate was rather high at 67bpm, so thought today would do either a slow 7k or a moderate 5k to catch up on rest during the night. Two things sorta determined the tempo. (1) Shakira went on air en-route (2) A chase subject showed up, a 40-something balding uncle jogging in badminton shoes (not the same overweight guy). Straight away Shakira made it a blistering pace, I easily zoomed past the uncle, and the first 2k was like a PR! Haha! But then, the lack of rest caught up with me, start to slow down but not much. Going into the 3rd km I was no longer striding and kicking well, stride went shorter at same tempo. Then, going into 4th km, the Demonic Side Stitch reared its ugly head again. Reaching Jetty End, it was a sub-23, so realizing that a PR attempt is still possible, zoomed back to Two-trees. Hey! A sub 32 minutes, possibly a PR! At this point I was totally panchited, so ended the run, totally breathless.
Then later tonacht, upon checking the records... Auuugh!!! Just 5 seconds slower than the previous PR. The consolation prize is that I still set a 2km PR. Whatever....
