Traumatic Brain Injury

Traumatic Brain Injury or TBI is an injury to the brain that is caused by some kind of blow to the head. Car accidents, falls, bicycle accidents and the like are the most common causes. While not everyone who is involved in an accident suffers a TBI, more than 30,000 children a year sustain permanent disabilities as the result of a TBI. I don't have the statistics on adults.

There are many different types of disabilites that a TBI can cause. Some of them are listed here:

• Short and Long Term memory Loss
  
• Difficulties with Concentrating, communicating, rationalizing, and planning


• Seizures


• Muscle Spasticity


• Loss or reduction of hearing, sight, smell and taste


• Speech Impairment


• Headaches


• Depression, anxiety and mood swings
