All women and their families are entitled to make informed decisions about their care, caregiver and the choice of a safe birthplace, and should be supported in those choices.
Breastfeeding is the optimal method of infant feeding and an unequalled way of promoting biological and emotional health of both mother and child. Maternal-infant nurses have an obligation to promote breastfeeding.The World Health Organization's International Code of the Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes and the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative must be adhered to, in order to create a positive breastfeeding culture in Ontario.
