Welcome to the New Milennium and thank goodness the Y2K issues are now resolved and finally behind us. We look forward to our annual general meeting in April 2000, the first of this new century.
Current hot topics in health care including primary health care reform and nurse practitioners. For information on these exciting changes, please check out the web sites of the RNAO, the OHA and the Ministry of Health.
This year at our AGM, elections for some of the executive positions will take place. We hope to catch your interest and excitement and invite any member to apply for one of the positions on the CNIG Excecutive.
At our last general meeting, Merry Little spoke about the certification process. She will be joining us once again this year to provide us with an update on the first certification examination for perinatal nursing that will take place in March. I understand approximately 400 people have applied to take the exam this year. Good luck to everyone who will be writing!
Remember, we do have educational bursaries available for up to five individuals applying for the certification examination. While this bursary will not cover all of the costs, it will hopefully help people move forward with the process of obtaining their certification.
The agenda for this year's AGM focuses primarily on the business of our interest group. We would really appreacite any input any member would care to send via fax, email or in the mail to any of the executive members (check out the back page for all addresses). Discussion is needed around developing and improving communication. We must discuss strategies that would enable us to reach out to and involve regional members in projects. We would really like to hear from you, our members in outlying regions of Northern Ontario. How can we help you be more involved in our interest group business?
To all members, please advise us of national and provincial groups who are involved in the care of women and children whom you think we might or should approach for partnership. Any thoughts or suggestions on the nature that partnership should take would also be very welcome. We look forward to a new era where members are more involved with the interest group and its future direction.
