1 cup raisins
3/4 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cloves
2 cups oatmeal
Put raisins in a small saucepan with 1 cup water. Simmer on low heat until the raisins are plumped. Drain liquid intomeasuring cup and add enough liquid to make 1/2 cup.
Cream together the shortening and sugar. When well mixed, stir in the eggs and vanilla. Then the raisin liquid. Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and cloves. When blended, mix together ieth the sugar-egg mixture. Turn in the oatmeal and then the raisins. Drop from a spoon onto a greased cookie sheet and bake in an oven at 350°F for about 10 minutes. Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack.
