Price per person is based on ordering a
soup, main course, dessert and soft drink. In Malaysia, a serving of steak
weight between 180g to 220g (about 6 oz) uncooked.

of the Golden Horses.
On our last visit, we ordered
minestrone soup, mushroom soup, pescattora (seafood) pizza, rack of lamb,
angel hair pasta with seafood in tomato sause and tiramisu. The ambient is
cozy and elegant. However, we find the food below our expectation; not much
taste in soup, pizza topping is nice but soggy and pasta is over cooked.

| The Mangotree
Restaurant.
This Italian restaurant also served a
limited Indian foods during lunch probably because the Italain owner/chef
was staying in Britain for too long. This restaurant is housed in a bangalow
with a contemporary interior design and claimed to change their menu every
three months. We find their gooseliver pate, panfried gooseliver, striploin,
lamb chop and tiramisu excellent. The owner chef, the Italian was working at
Hotel Istana and his partner Daniel was a general manager at Carcosa.
Reservation is recommended for dinner.

Probably the only stall in town that
sell salt beef. Salt beef is sold for take away only at Rm30/500g box. The
salt beef is pretty good, well aged and not too salty. From now on, there is
no need to wait to travel to Selfrigedes in Oxford Street, London to have
salt beef.

| Q*doz Restaurant.
A continental restaurant with a cozy

expensive.

| La Suisse Restaurant.
Top of our list. This restaurant is
believe to run by two brothers and one of them is married to a Swiss. Decor
is faily simple but they serve wide variety of continental foods and price
is reasonable. This is one of the few places in Kuala Lumpur that you can
get lamb steak. We love their home cooked soup (pumpkin, lobster, barley)
veal, lamb steak, salmon, etc. Their desserts are good too; especially hot
rasberry and hot red wine cherry. Reservation is recommended even for
weekdays.

| Denito's Ristorante
Italiano.
We tried their home made soup and baked
salmon which is good. The baked salmon is served on a bed of diced tomatoes.
We are quite disappointed with their tiramisu which is so so only; however,
their fried mango coated with pistachio is unique. Their expresso at RM3 is
cheap.

| Jake's Charbroil
Steaks.
A US style steak house except serving
portion. We ordered clam chowder soup, porterhouse steak (a 400g T-bone
steak with combined tenderloin and sirloin cut) and ice cream for dessert.
The clam chowder had few clam and not as thick as we expected. In the US,
the normal serving size for porterhouse steak is massive 24oz. We like the
US corn fed tenderloin and wish they could serve a warmer soup and steak on
a warmed plate. Incidentally, the largest steak available on restaurant menu
in the US is 72oz steak in a Texan steak house.

| Victoria Station Steak
House.
As the name implied, the setting of
these restaurants is modelled after BR Victoria station, London. Kind of
mixed between underground and British Rail station with some coach style
seating. Their Jalan Ampang outlet have a locomotive (Malaysian) at the
entrance. One of the well known steak house in town and their quality is
fairly consistent.
On a visit to their USJ outlet, we feel the way they recommend live lobster
persistently too forceful and irritating. We find the meat (lamb and steak)
too dry.
Food Quality:
Location: Jalan Ampang, USJ and Damansara.
Phone: 03-254-9406.

| Avanti Ristorante,
Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel
An expensive Italian American
restaurant with main course priced up to RM110/dish for 'Surf and turf'. Wax
crayons is available for expression on paper table cloth while waiting,
although waiting was not long for us. For dinner, we settled for minestrone
soup, bean soup, clam ravoili and fusilli. The homemade bread is freshly
baked and is nice, and sherbet is a compliment with main course.
Lately in May 99, for the set lunch of RM43.5 per head, available Sunday to
Friday, you get a main course selection from menu (about 8 choices range
from pasta to fish and steak), appetizer (tapas, olyster, mussels, cold
selection), soup and desserts on buffet table. For a change, we find this
offer value for money.
We visited this place again in August 99 for a simple dinner. We had
spagetti, penne with meat ball in tomato sauce and tiramisu for dessert. We
find their tiramisu creamy and is one of the best around, excellent.

A newly opended Mediterranean
restaurant serving Spanish, Portuguese, French?, Italian, Greek and Turkish

Restaurant, Center Point.
A value restaurant where starter, soup
and dessert on buffet is included with the main course. Main course is

| Restoran Big Plate.
A non-aircond steak house with
localized menu serving the locals especially those working at the Subang

at RM18.50, hence can't expect to have aged steak. Overall, it is a cheap
place to have reasonable western food.

| Amigos Mexican Cafe,
Bangsar.
Like many restaurants in Bangsar, their
profit center is drinks and food is only a supplement, hence quality of food
is amateur. We visited this cafe and ordered Salsa soup, tortilla soup,
fajitas and quesadilla. The fajitas and quesadilla is so so but we are
disappointed with the watery and tasteless soup.

This is a Italian chain restaurant with
about 6 outlets. We tried their mushroom soup (RM14), minestrone soup
