but from the comments that were made, seemed reluctant to push for any more than some type of hours agreement. They have been given legal authority by the county attorney to require hours limitations. Mr. Coch, who is our Sully district Planning Commissioner motioned a deferment of a final recommendation until February 11, 1998. He now will negotiate with the range to reach some middle ground on reduction of more holiday hours and how these hours will somehow be enforced. He is looking for middle ground without having the range completely pull their application. You may write him at the following address: Richard W. Coch Fairfax County Planning Commissioner 12000 Government Center Pkwy. Suite 330 Fairfax VA 22035-0042 For Many of you, the gunfire may be old news, but at the time you may need to put that for sale sign in your yard, you certainly would want the best possible conditions to exist for you to sell your home, so any progress we can make on the impact the range has on our neighborhood is worthy of the time we give. It is very important that Mr. Coch know how important it is that some type of hours reduction be required from this range. For the range to not even close on Thanksgiving or New Year's Day is not evidence of their publicly stated willingness to be a good neighbor. Many in Centre Ridge and surrounding communities would like to explore the noise abatement built by a gun range in Loudoun County recently, and if any of you are interested in working on this, let me know. Channel 4 News has also expressed an interest in covering this story, but I would like feedback from you, my neighbors, before I give the reporter who contacted me permission to mention our neighborhood. Please call me with your feedback. Your neighbor, Karen Banick 830-5543 |

On Saturday, November 2, four couples from one of Gate Post Estate's gourmet groups joined forces for a gourmet "outing" to a wonderful restaurant downtown. Jim and Mary Jane Schuping, Gerry and Barbara Gosselin, Clint and Carol Booth, and Jim and Diane Fowler (new to the Gourmet Group), enjoyed a fabulous meal at Marroccos, located at 20th and L Streets, N.W. in D.C. The evening began with appetizers and wine at the home of Jim and Diane. After an hour to whet the appetites, the group left in two cars for the ride downtown. Thanks to Jim Schuping, who is on good terms with the manager/owner of Marroccos, the group was treated royally to a delicious dinner complete with great authentic Italian appetizers bread, pastas and other entrees, and of course, lots of wine! There was also a terrific and fun waiter who put up with the group's high spirits. . .and even Clint's antics! The outing was a great success. Many thanks to Jim for arranging for the reservations at Marroccos. Perhaps more of you in Gate Post will be able to join in the next outing -- probably in January or February. Hope to see you then.
