Happenings in Gate Post
Christmas Lights Winners The annual Gate Post Estates light contest was held Sunday evening, December 14. Any interested block captains and any other members of Gate Post Estates were invited to meet at the home of Terry and Jo Donahue. A small, but enthusiastic crowd met for refreshments before going out and driving around the neighborhood. Each group was asked to drive around twice and to note any homes that seemed to fit the categories of most traditional, colorful, creative and best entryway. Afterwards the group reconvened at the Donahue's and voiced their opinions. A written vote was taken and the re-sults were tallied. The winners this year were: Best Entryway - Tom & Becky Bradley, 6748 Jade Post Lane; Most Traditional - Charles & Charlotte Morris, 6615 White Post Road; Most Colorful - Dave & Shirley Von Rinteln, 1480l Green Post Court; and Most Creative - Clint and Carol Booth, 14803 Green Post Court. Congratulations to all the winners!

Congratulations to the Cheek's of 6703 Round Post Court - Mentioned in the Fairfax Journal, for the second year in a row, has having one of the brightest Christmas light displays in Fairfax County.

Group II
Meets
Saturday, January 17, found the members of Gate Post Gourmet Group I at the home of Diane and Jim Hursey for dinner prepared in traditional Jewish Eastern European style. The evening started with Cabel Hock, a semi-dry white wine from Israel and SALMON AND SMOKED SALMON ROLLS WITH DILL SAUCE. Dinner began with CHICKEN Soup WITH MINIATURE LEEK-CHIVE MATZO BALLS and CHALLAH, a traditional braided Jewish yeast bread rich with eggs and a light, airy texture. The main course consisted of PRIME RIB WITH ROASTED GARLIC AND HORSERADISH CRUST accompanied by BEET, RED ONION AND HORSERADISH RELISH, PAPRIKAS WEISS' HUNGARIAN CUCUMBER SALAD, CLASSIC POTATO LATKES, and GOLDEN GRATIN, a apricot-yam casserole. A dry red wine from the ancient vineyards of Ergi Bikaver and Eger. Hungary accompanied the meal. A dessert of POPPY SEED CAKE and COFFEE completed the evening. Additionally sampled, by only a brave few, was Mainschewitz American Concord Grape wine.
For February, the group will embark on an excursion in Caribbean cuisine. The Gourmet Group's most up-to-date menus, selected recipes, other news and information can always be seen at the Gate Post Estates Gourmet web site www.geocities.com/Napa Valley/3914/. Interested Gate Post residents should contact any group member or e-mail us at gpegg@geocities.com or gpegg@usa.net. Jim Hursey
Schupings Host New Year's Eve Party

Bringing in the new year with international hors d'oeuvres and fine wine were approximately 12 couples composed of members of the Gate Post Estates Gourmet Groups I and II and the Gate Post Estates Wine Tasting Group. The party was hosted by Jim and Mary Jane Schuping of Gray Post Court. The couples enjoyed dancing to oldies music and greeted the 1998 new year with a champagne toast at midnight.
