Diary
I've been in Boulder since 1981, having moved
from back east (CT, NH and ME). I grew up in Westport,
Connecticut, outside of New York, but never felt very
comfortable with that, competetive, wealthy, "keep-up-with-the-Jones's" lifestyle.
I enjoyed spending my summers in Rangeley, Maine, where
people were very down-to-earth. When the time came to
go to college, I sped off to Plymouth, New
Hampshire and had a wonderful four years roaming around
northern New England (I did study a little).
After college, I ended up back in CT for a year or so. Thanks to a friend, Lisa, who I followed out to Boulder, I found a new home and never went back (except to visit my family, who I love and miss very much). I love Boulder and it suits me well, although it is beginning to grow quickly and take on some of the qualities I left behind.
I've worked in several of the major local industries: ski, high tech, natural products, and now aerospace. I had been following a marketing path until I got the job with rocket scientists, although I use some of the same skill-sets, managing their website, helping them publish papers and organizing conferences and events.
I used to love to ski. But, I blew my knee out in 1995
just about the time I was getting tired of the high
prices and hours in traffic, so I don't go much anymore.
I like snowshoeing, hiking, and I try to whitewater raft
each summer and get some camping in too. I also enjoy
just about anything social or cultural, and like being
very eclectic - there's so much to experience in this
life!
As well as travel internationally every few years,
I love to go on "micro-adventures" and
roam around the state doing odd things I've never done
before. (I'd like to do more offbeat things on this list.)
When there is a blue
moon I gather some friends together and spend a day or
evening doing things we've never done before, or only
do "once in a blue moon." I make jewelry too, for my
friends and myself (I think I have over 200 pairs of
earings now). But, my passion and all-time favorite thing
to do is cook for friends and get involved in other food-related
activities.
I have a
wonderful, loving cat named Coal. (See him in the photo
to the right.)
That's it in a nutshell. If you want the year-by-year blow-by-blow since 1990, check out the links below. They are text from the holiday letters I send out each year - of course, edited for the web.
