I have been homebrewing for a few years now it's a great hobby and you get the added bonus of drinking good beer afterwards I am not going to go into how to homebrew instead I will place links at the bottom of the page that can explain it much better than I can.
These are a few recipes that I like the ones that have won awards with are not my favorites but I will include them because hey they won awards *laugh*Give them a try and if you have a recipe you really like and want me to post it here just send me a copy and I will put it up.So try them out and let me know how it turns out.
First place in the porter category at the November 1994 All About Ales competition Toronto,Canada.
1/4 lb. black patent malt
1lb. crystal malt,60 lovibond
1/2 lb. Munich malt
1/2 lb. chocolate malt
1/4 lb. roasted malt
3.5 lb. John Bull dark extract
2.2 lb. dark dried malt extract
2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup molasses
2 oz. Willamette hop pellets,in boil 60 min.
2 packs red star ale yeast
3/4 cup corn sugar to prime
this is for 19 litres.Steep grains for 30 minutes in 2 gallons of 150 water.Strain out grains and add malt extract,brown sugar and molasses.Bring to a boil and add the hops.Boil 60 min.Remove from heat,chill wort,and transfer to fermenter.Top off to 5 gal. and pitch yeast.Ferment 1 week at 65f .Rack to secondary and ferment 2 weeks at 65. prime and bottle
A nice lager with just the right amount of hops
5 lb. 2-row pilsner malt
1 lb. cara-pils malt
1 lb. light dried malt
2 lb. clover honey
1 oz. Mt. Hood hops,6% alpha acid,boil 60 min.
1 oz. Sazz hop pellets,3.2% alpha acid,boil 5 min.
1 0z. Sazz hop pellets,3.2% alpha acid,steep 10 min.
1/4 oz. Tettnanger hops,dry hopped in secondary
Wyeast #2007 lager yeast
3/4 c. corn sugar to prime
this is for 19 litres Add crushed grains to 2 gal. of water and heat mash to 120f.rest for 20 min. heat mash to 140f and rest 15 min. heat mash to 154f and rest untill conversion is complete,about 60 min. mash out at 168f for 10 min. sparge with 170f water.collect 6 gal. of wort.add dry malt extract and honey.bring to a boil and add the Mt.Hood hops.boil 55 min. then add the 1 oz. of Sazz pellets.boil 5 min. turn off heat and add the other oz. of Sazz and steep 10 min.chill wort and pitch yeast.ferment for 2 weeks at 55f rack and ferment for 2 months at 34f......bottle
A nice powerful Scottish ale very malty...you will be seeing Nessie after a few of these.
131/2 lbs. pale ale malt
1 lb. cara-Munich malt
1 lb. crystal malt,80 Lovibond
1/2 lb. biscuit malt
1/2 lb. wheat malt
1 oz. roasted barley
13/4 oz. Goldings hops,5.5% alpha,in boil 90 minutes
Wyeast#1728 Scottish ale yeast
3/4 cup corn sugar to prime
Prior to brewing day,make a 2-qt.yeast starter.Crush grains and add to 51/2 gallons of 169f water.Mash at 158f for 60 minutes.Raise temperature to 170f for 10 minutes.mash-out.Sparge with 170f water and collect 61/2-7 gallons of wort.Bring to a boil and add Goldings hops.Boil 90 minutes,then turn off heat.Chill wort,transfer to fermenter,and pitch yeast.Ferment at 60f for 2 weeks,rack to secondary fermenter for another 3 weeks.Prime and bottle.Give this at least 3 months in the bottle.
