Welcome to the Webelos 1 Den

Malinda Penman, Webelos 1 Leader 2008-2009: malinbear@excite.com 544-5548

Malinda has been with the pack for since 2002. She has 2 sons in the pack, one is a Wolf and the other is a Webelos 2. Malinda is also our fundraising chair-person.

Webelos 1 scout is in his first year of a 20 month program. He is in for 4th grade. Some cub scout packs might not divide their Webelos scouts into 1 and 2. Pack 352 does divide Webelos into 2 dens. Webelos 2 scouts are in 5th grade.

Our Webelos 1 program is designed to be an introduction to Boy Scouts. They start to learn the basics in Boy Scouting and can work on achieving some of the 20 different activity badges. A well-run group of Webelos is a gradual change from being an 'adult-run' den to being a 'boy-run' patrol ready to fit right into an adventurous scouting troop. This migration requires the parents and den leaders to give the scouts more and more control, decision-making power, and responsibility as they progress in skills, abilities, and maturity. A good program also provides the scouts with many opportunities to grow in the Webelos virtues.

This is the begining of a journey that leads to the highest rank in Cub Scouting, the Arrow of Light Award.

This is the Webelos Scout in full Uniform. At minimum, the Webelos Scout should have a neckerchief, and tan shirt. The blue scout shirt they wore as a Bear Scout can be worn in their Webelos 1 rank, but many boys choose to wear a tan colored shirt. Tan is the color of a boy scout shirt. The Pack 352 patch is provided by the pack.

This the Webelos Rank Book. It is required and costs $9.00. It will be used for the entire Webelos program. It can be purchased at the Boy Scouts of America Office.

This the Webelos Rank Patch. This patch is usually earned within the first 6 months of the program.

This the Webelos color bars that the activity pins the scout earns will be placed on. The scout will be given this when he earns his first set of pins.

There are 20 activity pins that the scout may earn. He will earn 3 to earn his Webelos patch, and will need to 5 additional pins to earn the Arrow of Light Award. These pins can be pinned to his Webelos Colors.

The Compass Points Emblem is presented to the scout after he achieves his first 7 activity pins. The scout will receive one compass point pin for each additional four activity pins.

This is the highest rank in Cub Scouts. This is the only patch that your scout will earn that can also be sewn onto his Boy Scout uniform.
