My Hunter Ancestors

My maternal grandmother

This is a picture of my maternal grandmother, Jessie (McFayden) Hunter taken somewhere around 1900. Jessie married Thomas Albert Hunter, January 24, 1900. They had four children, May, Alvin, Lyla, and Milton. Jessie was born June 19, 1871 in Glenarm, Victoria, Ontario, Canada to Hugh and Mary (Gilchrist) McFadyen. She died July 20, 1949 in Gilby, North Dakota.

My maternal grandfather.

My maternal grandfather was Thomas Albert(Albert or T.A.) Hunter born August 16, 1872 in Cartwright, Durham, Ontario, Canada to William and Janet (Rankin) Hunter. He emmigrated to North Dakota in about 1895. He worked for other farmers before acquiring his own land. He farmed for many years in Inkster and Gilby, North Dakota. He died October 15, 1952 and is buried at Gilby, North Dakota.

My mother as the baby in 4 generation picture

This picture taken in about 1903, is of my mother, my grandmother, her mother, Mary (Gilchrist) McFadyen and her mother Janet (Cameron) Gilchrist. Mary was born in Fenelon, Victoria, Ontario, Canada 29 December 1844 to Ronald and Janet (Cameron) Gilchrist who were both born in Kildalton, Islay, Argyllshire, Scotland. She married Hugh McFadyen, February 3, 1864. Hugh was born in Scotland (probably on Islay although no baptism record exists) May 1, 1833. Mary died January 16, 1910 and is buried at Glenarm, Victoria, Ontario, Canada. Mary's mother, Janet Cameron, was baptized with the name Euphemia Cameron March 25, 1824 at Kildalton, Islay, Argyllshire, Scotland as a child of John Cameron and Mary (Douglas) McLucas. She died March 11, 1908 and is buried in Glenarm.

My mother's paternal grandparents

William and Janet (Rankin) Hunter. William Hunter was born August 8, 1833 in Killead, Antrim, North Ireland. He immigrated to Canada in the 1850's where on December 2, 1858 he and Janet Rankin were married. Janet was born January 27, 1839 in Glasgow, Scotland. She immigrated to Canada sometime after 1845. William died at Prince Albert, Ontario, Canada, July 24, 1905 and Janet died March 12, 1921. They are buried at Prince Albert. The picture was probably taken in 1903.

This picture of the William Hunter family. The inset in the upper left in son John and back row left to right is Albert, Jessie, Robert, Sarah Ann and Alvin. Front row left to right is Edith, William, Mary, Janet, Ellen Jane and Margaret. This picture was probably taken in about 1903 as Albert was known to be in Ontario at that time.
