BIOGRAPHY

Written by Henry S. Jost and Family

My dear wife and our mother, Anna Klaassen Jost, daughter of Dietrich A. and Aganetha Duerksen Klaassen, was born on July 9, 1894, two miles south-west of Hillsboro. Here she spent her happy childhood days and youth. She received her elementary education in the Hope Valley School. At the age of 14 in 1909, she accepted Jesus Christ as per personal Saviour, was baptized upon her confession of faith and received into the membership of the Gnadenau K.N.B. Church. After two years her membership was transferred to the Mennonite Brethren Church in Hillsboro.

After a year or so she encountered numerous spiritual doubts and conflicts for about three years. One day the good Lord spoke to her in a tender sweet voice, "Fear not, I have called thee by thy name, thou art mine." Isaiah 43:1. By Grace she accepted this and knew she was a child of God.

At the age of 19, she entered Tabor College and graduated from the English-German academy course. Then she taught rural school for four years and a few terms of German school; she also was active in Sunday School work.

On July 20, 1924, she was united in marriage with me, Henry S. Jost, and took responsibilities as mother over my five children, Irvin, Edna, Sam, Evelyn, and Ben. To this union two more children were born, one son, Bertram and daughter, Viola. That same year the Lord was fit to take our daughter Edna at the age of 11 to her Heavenly Home.

Shortly after our marriage we went back to our home at Morse, Sask., Canada, where we lived till April 1928. Then we moved back to Kansas and settled on a farm a few miles north of Hillsboro. Here we resided till 1949 when we retired and made our home in Hillsboro.

25th Wedding Anniversary

We had the privilege to enjoy over 29 years of happy companionship. She was a devoted wife and a dear and loving mother to us children and her early passing is very keenly felt. She was a great lover of music and always received a blessing when the children were home to sing and play their instruments. Sons very dear to he were: "This World is not My Home". "Meet Me There", and "Engel oeffnet das goldne Thor".

Our mother enjoyed good health till 1947 when some symptoms made themselves known that she was ailing. In spring 1952, her health began to fail rapidly and in September of that year she submitted to a major operation. The Lord in his wonderful love laid his healing hand upon her and after three weeks of hospitalization she could return home and enjoyed fairly good health till April 9, when she became ill suddenly, and since then began to get weaker. On August 16 she entered the Salem Hospital. Her strength failed rapidly and soon was bedfast. She patiently bore her suffering and spent much time in reading and was fully submitted to the Lord's will and would often express the desire and wish to be taken home to glory. The following lines of the song "All the way my Savior Leads me", she had underscored and made a brief note that they were very precious to her, on September 24: "When my Spirit, clothed immortal, Wings its flight to realms of day, This my song thru endless ages, Jesus led me all the way". On Thursday morning, October 1, when asked if she was ready to die, she answered yes, and shortly after that she went in a coma and never regained consciousness.

She passed away peacefully at 7:30 p.m. on October 10, to awaken in the glorious beyond whereby God's grace we want to meet her. She reached the age of 59 years, two months, and one day.
