BIOGRAPHY

Lena Klaassen Ensz was born November 8, 1891, to D.A. and Aganetha Klaassen, the second of fifteen children, in Hillsboro, Kansas. She received her formal education near Hillsboro.

Lena received the Lord as her personal Saviour during a series of meetings at the Gnadnau Church, Hillsboro, in 1907. She followed the Lord in baptism on November 5, 1909, and the same day became a member of the Gnadnau K.M.B. Church. Lena took her spiritual life seriously.

On February 18, 1910, she was united in marriage to G.D. Ensz at Hillsboro, Kansas, by Elder Heinrich Wiebe. At this time they pledged their vows one to the other, to which they have been faithful for more than sixty-two years.

They moved to a farm near Inman where eight children were born and raised in the fear and admonition of the Lord. Shortly after moving to Inman, mother joined the Zoar Church where father was already a member, and this is where the family worshipped together.

Lena and G.D. were privileged to celebrate their 25th, 50th, and 60th wedding anniversaries together with family and friends. Mother will be long remembered for her quiet, unselfish devotion to her Lord, her husband and her children. It has become apparent in recent months through her singing and praying that her relationship to her Lord found expression in her relationships to her family and home.

Lena and G.D. have been residents of the Pleasant View Home the past two and one-half years where they have received loving care. In 1971 and 1972, Lena had been in and out of the hospital where she was at the time of her passing, July 10, 1972. Lena was preceded in death by two sons, Levi and Dick, one grandson, her parents, one brother, and three sisters.

She leaves to mourn, her husband; three daughters and sons-in-law, Marie and Irvin Jost of Hillsboro, Ruth and Ben Jost of Newton, and Irene and Jerry Sullivan of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, three sons and daughters-in-law, Reverend Arnold and Elma of Whitewater, Reverend Elmer and Katherine of Frazier, Montana, and Roy and Luella of Inman; twenty-one grandchildren and one great grandchild; five sisters, five brothers, many nephews and nieces, and a host of friends.
